They seems to be signaling ā€œwe’re actually sticking to the gameā€ hard, although all of Claire’s lines are all like ā€œI am the chosen hero who will stop Umbrellaā€ rather than ā€œsituation is fucked, I gotta find my brother and get out of hereā€, so they seem to be missing the thread there. but it’s just a trailer, so all that could be extremely misleading construction

If it’s fun trash with some decent setpieces I’ll enjoy it though

The Mortal Kombat movie is not that great but it really understands the essence of all the characters and I think that part of it holds up. ā€œRE protagonistā€ is a thing that never seems to make the jump outside of the games and I think it’s important to making a good adaptation of it

What the hell is going on with Leon Kennedy’s hair

Leon is supposed to be some non-threatening Leonardo DiCaprio or River Phoenix-type 90s pretty boy, so the actor’s look doesn’t really work for me, but I’m guessing he won’t even be like the Leon we know from the game, anyway. The Chris seems decent, though – at least he looks more like Chris than he did in the Wide Screen Anderson movie (though, the Fake Chris in the second movie wasn’t bad, but also not explicitly Chris).

I’m not really feeling Claire’s actress (people kept bringing up Skins, but I’ve never seen a single episode of what I presume to be English Degrassi), but I also wasn’t feeling Claire’s re-design for the RE2make, either, so, whatever. Here’s hoping she has more of a personality than just stoic and anti-Umbrella, otherwise, she’s going to wind up like just another Alice except without the super powers to solve her problems.

Also, I absolutely hate the dramatic remixes of songs trope in trailers, and I’m not sure I understand what they were going for with the 4 Non-Blondes, because while I can read that as them going, ā€œlol dramatic trailer remixes are lame so we’re going to use a song people (unfairly) only remember as a memeā€, I’m more just confused and don’t think that was the intention.

Regardless, looks better than Wide Screen’s bullshit, so I don’t have any real complaints yet.

Yeah don’t watch, it’s irritating. Some friends worked on it and acted in it and we all hated it anyway

I really wonder how indicative these little details are that they are going to strike the right tone and to what degree they end up being cynical set dressing. I mean, the silent hill movie had a lot of direct allusions!

Capcom’s 1997 E3 press kit mistakenly refers to Leon S. Kennedy as ā€œLeon Walkerā€ on the page for Resident Evil 2, conflating Leon and (proto Claire Redfield) Elza Walker’s names.

I’ve been playing through all the old Resi games for the first time recently. I’ve done 1-3 and now Code Veronica. I just want to say I’m amazed at how CV is maybe 3 times as long as the others but doesn’t ever feel really bloated or padded out. Good game.

Is there really no explanation of how Steve can fly a plane??

Resident Evil is a universe of comically over-talented individuals. Rebecca did helicopter maintenance in the PS1 RE1.

You ever think of how (some) RE have weirdly grounded mechanics for its narrative dressing? Most games, especially the tonally serious ones, have you playing as Nathan Everyman and you down a thousand terrorist mooks. RE gives special operatives guns, knives and first aid kids and it’s a struggle to survive just a few zombies. Your stiff controls and horror mechanics put you in about as realistic changes of success as a real trained cop might in this situation. It makes the juxtaposition against the matrix stuff in CV and 5 even more awesome.
