Pretty sure Sakurai said in an interview that Nintendo gave him a list of options for bonus DLC characters and he gave the okay on the ones he thought they’d be able to do proper justice to. I think the assumption was that the powers-that-be were specifically looking for cross-promotion opportunities, so it would make the most sense for these latecomers to be third-party characters.
The rest of them are just gonna be fire emblem characters, calling it now.
Either that or they’re gonna all be extremely popular third party characters EXCEPT the most important one of all, Boshi.

he could at least be a wario echo fighter or costume but I mean I feel like he deserves his own moveset
he could ride a little train around for his side special
