go steal 4 Wii U and play it in Cemu and Ultimate is mostly that, but portable and with Simon Belmont
4 is significantly worse! If you’re gonna do that, you might as well play PM instead.
I’m not saying Ultimate is better or that it isn’t meaningfully mechanically distinct from 4, just that it’s probably enough of the way there for someone to get a taste before burning a million Canadian pesos on it
I guess what I really want to say is, I think you should have a good idea by now if Smash is your thing or not, but I’m not enough of an asshole to come right out and say it
no, wait
well like,
I had fun with melee back in the day though everyone who played it competitively seemed like Way Too Much for me, I’m not a super competitive person (despite being a fairly aggressive person, I’m usually just competing with myself) and I generally don’t like doing one thing for that long
I played brawl when it came out briefly, went eh, have had a project M ISO on here that I fire up from time to time, am not exactly uninterested in being caught up with a modern version of the game that people seem to actually like, and I’m feeling well-disposed to the dumbness of the single player
so I’m not coming to it as someone who’s like, a fighting game dude who wants to maybe Get Into Smash, I’m coming to it as, does it feel worth my while to dip back in at this point, and leaning yes
also value-wise I feel like I’ve ripped off modern nintendo consistently enough between emulating Splatoon and BotW and planning on doing the same for Arms when it runs a little faster that I’m not too concerned about running a loss against them
are you the reason I’m not getting Legs in the immediate future
Splatoon 2 felix. Splatoon 2 is good.
I will defeat galoob
smash ultimate is loosely like a combination of melee and 4.
I still am not a big fan of melee bc it’s an unfortunate combination of extremely janky and extremely technical and just kind of feels unpleasantly slippery to play, tho high level play is pretty incredible and deep. I like ultimate a lot more because it’s easily the most polished and responsive the game has been and there is a ton more variety in both casual and high level play.
the original smash 64 is a mess but it had this weight and physicality that melee kind of lacks and I feel like ultimate overall has the best blend of highly technical play and accessible/fun “gamefeel”
yeah wow it’s a lot more commitment heavy than my old muscle memory is used to but does fundamentally feel good
cool
and it turns out I like how eccentric their standards for including C-tier gacha stuff has gotten too which alleviates my major concern about being depressed by the brand content
good buy
duck hunt rules wtf
by far my favourite new character
good duck hunts were my nightmare when i was playing palutena a lot online, they could easily exceed my ability to be annoying as hell with projectiles
OK I unlocked Lucas and am now ending battles instantaneously but the dog was fun while he lasted
given how little I played brawl you wouldn’t think my mother 3 advantage would be that strong and yet
Yeah, Lucas is game-breaking in adventure mode, especially if you equip him with PSI-up spirits.
it’s nice when a character that you played because he was there rather than because he was good actually gets buffed
lucas is an underrated main as well. he has strong aerial combos and pk freeze is terrifying in this game.
in single player just spam up smash tbh
genuinely mad i missed the limited time links awakening spirits gacha lifestyle is rough
hero having random initial commands in the lil rpg menu, random power to the moves(?), and random instant ko’s is wacky and it makes me want an obnoxious deck building element on top of it (i guess a second one to the spirits)
this whole thing of zoning to use the shield to scroll fast enough through a randomized menu of commands that everyone can see on screen really could be made into a game on it’s own
The fightman gamer in me kinda hates this menu. You can’t move and you have to input two button presses at the very best to get something out. Not to mention speed read. The passive buffs will probably end up being the most used since you can fish for them during moments of waiting for an opponent to recover. Some of the Projectiles might see some play but they’ll be to reactable when you see the menu stance so that falls in the realm of reads or bluffs to be used. The only other note worthy ones being Zoom for free recovery and Magic Burst for free edge guarding. I don’t see the sword attacks being worth it due to the RNG and input tax outside of hitting with the snooze spell. At least the rest of him is looking average to decent. He’s got alot of flexibility with his recovery and projectile game. I’ll always be rocking Hero 3 with DQ5 colors and voiced by Hiyama.
