its back now
Thank you!!
Oh sweet Iād been thinking my list needed some updating. ^ _^
does the original klonoa have much in the way of a language barrier? because jp copies are both significantly cheaper than western, and also very cute
in game progress terms, the specifics of the story are low priority imo
Itās been a decade, but I remember beating the JP version without any knowledge of the language. Youāll be fine.
So since I have a couple days of PS+ left I finally gave Death Stranding a try (yes I have the free PC version and a no longer pitiful PC, but figure it probably runs better on said PS5) and likeā¦ how long would one recommend putting into it before they have a good idea whether it is for them or not? I put in a couple hours (finished episode 1 by cremating president mom and then got stuck watching a lot of episode 2 cutscenes waiting for a chance to save) and am very much not sold on it, closer to the opposite actually. That said the majority of that time has been spent on Kojima-grade gobbledygook, with basically only the intro walking bit and that single mission being the only bit I played.
Neither bit did much for me but the game could conceivably still be in a slow feeding of basics mode, so I guess the question is if that sliver of gameplay is a fair representative sample of what the game is?
Also canāt play it beyond midnight tomorrow (got maybe 2 hours worth of gaming time I can free up tomorrow) soā¦ you know, quick questions need quick answers sometimes
I think the game really gets going in Chapter 3. It opens way, way up. And that can happen relatively quick, youāre not in Chapter 2 for that long. And chapter 2 is way more interactive anyway, youāll have more to think about if you get through at least that and see whatās ahead in chapter 3.
chapter 3 is probably the high point of the game mechanically (before it turns into a fake-online busywork game for making numbers go up)
Super Fun Dungeon Runs
I guess the follow-up question is can I even get to chapter 3 within two hours from where Iām at, I guess I could just skip every cutscene to hurry things up if need be (it might even improve thingsā¦) but if itās a way off I may just be better off spending my last couple hours trying out a different game.
Play something else for sure, I felt the same as you and while I did enjoy the following chapters more I did end up quitting without finishing it, long after I should have stopped, and now I am mainly left with the memories of all the stuff that irked the hell outta me. There are moments were all the hiking feels rewarding but itās mostly really braindead and if you aināt feeling the Kojima stuff now HOO BOY it aināt getting any better!!
Probably runs better on your PC than youād expect though.
As the sicko super fan of Death Stranding Iād say you should quit.
Like I cackled and hooted for my entire 70 hour playthrough. I donāt think the game ever really changes if you donāt like the walking around.
To put it another way, a frequent complaint I read of the game is making a 20 minute delivery, getting 5 feet from the delivery point and then tripping and breaking the package. This was for them bullshit! When it happened to me I stood on my couch and did a touchdown dance. I highfived my friend like five times. It was the best thing that ever happened to me in a video game.
Yeah if you didnāt like transporting that corpse on your back I think you can reasonably quit. I was 100% on board by that point
I keep playing more games on my PS5, hoping any of them will be as good as Death Stranding. They rarely are!
The opening mission just isnāt very representative of what you get up to in the rest of the game. Chapter 2 is right there. Keep playing and see if you like it, I say.
death stranding has an approximately likeā¦ 25 - 40 hour stretch with relatively little plot or cutscenes head empty no thoughts just delivering
probably worth playing until u get to the 2nd open world area i think if the game hasnt hooked u by then u might just not like it tho i do think that is probably the strongest area in the game
Regardless of how mechanically excellent Kojima games are (and they really are quite excellent), none of them are worth playing if you donāt like rolling around in Kojimashit and getting it up your nose. Theyāre absolutely suffused with it. You have to love it to love the games.
speaking of Death Stranding video games are best when iām just like right at the edge of boredom but with a near constant threat of failure. played way too much PUBG when it was new due to this dynamic.

having to super focus to get out of trouble because you werenāt paying enough attention is hilarious i love it
yeah i think itās hard to recommend any Kojima game if a person isnāt endeared to Kojima as a creator. maybe MGSV?
can you make rpg maker battles look like this using only/mostly layout trickery and specially-made sprites?
the back of the player character in the foreground, a big enemy looming in the background
