Soul II Soul is explicitly referenced in the timestamped clip below for Super Adventure Island

Any wisdom about buying an external harddrive? I’ve just kind of bought at random and have one starting to die on me. How big is too big? Which manufacturer is the current baddy?

How big of one do you want? What are you doing with it? If you get an ssd based one it will probably never die. Flash is really cheap right now.

Is Xbox Game Pass worth it? I’m debating between getting a series x for 50 off on it’s own or getting the all access version. I already have a decent library of XBone games but I am curious if you feel it is worthwhile with game pass ultimate and EA play included.

I’m gonna put media files on it and pull it out when I need to get to those media files.

I don’t know what the reasonable limit for size is anymore. Bigger means more files?

The only limit is how much you’re willing to lose if the drive fails. Larger drives aren’t more or less reliable as far as I can tell. The truly huge ones are ā€œenterpriseā€ drives that you’d have to put in your own enclosure, they will usually be rated for longer continuous use which doesn’t mean much in your case. Physical durability wise I didn’t have any trouble flying back and forth to the meetup with a 20tb drive in a nothing-special usb enclosure. Maybe not as rough as a small child?

External drives sold as such are usually a little cheaper per tb than bare drives. Some of the very large drives (>12tb) are noisy even when idle. There aren’t any especially good or bad manufacturers right now.

I don’t know if I have any more relevant info. Storage is very much a commodity these days and you’re not doing anything demanding, I think you’ll be okay with pretty much whatever

I don’t understand

i would say uhhh kinda, if there are a reasonable amount of games on it now, or slated to be on it that u feel good about then yes absolutely. Idk what the all access version is but last i checked (semi-recently) it was still easy 2 convert Gold into Game Pass Ultimate for way less tho so i would check that out first if that’s a meaningful distinction.

Personally, I haven’t launched my Xbox in like a month, and I often end up buying older games that r still on the storefront but I still appreciate having game pass cuz for all of Microsoft’s midwit taste, the loss-leader overinvestment means (for the time being) a lot of good stuff ends up on there. Its nice to be able to instantly play Soma or Danganronpa or whatever.
A lot of their recent shifts suggest that they may raise the price, change the terms, cut out non-originals, etc. so I think that’s something to be potentially wary of, although i’m holding out hope I’ll get the 2010s moviepass ride again where they dump money into this out of deluded market logic & fumble the exit plan entirely.

there’s a trick to get turkish regional pricing with old xbox live gold vouchers that might be worth looking into. a few years back you could get three years for Ā£50 so I’ve been sat on that. they’ve neutered it a bit but it’s still a v good deal
definitely wouldn’t pay a tenner a month or whatever

As someone that had Game Pass PC off and on and has Playstation Plus Ultra Deluxe right now Game Pass was way better. Easier to use (when it doesn’t permanently fuck your OS.) Easier to browse. It cleanly splits downloadable and streaming games. The PS+ menu is just a disaster. GP has a way to mark games so you can think about them later.

The streaming option worked pretty well too so you could on PC play OXbox and 360 games as well.

I think Game Pass’s convinence is going to destroy traditional game sells especially when they finally launch it as a streaming service on Switch (rumor). That or Microsoft gives up on the 20 year money pit.

But you can look at the library online, see 10 titles you’d be interested in trying? Then it would seem worth it to me.

How direct of a remake is the switch version of Super Mario RPG? We got a copy because several people in my family wanted to play it. I was thinking of doing a back to back comparative playthrough with the SNES version first (which I haven’t played in many years) but I’m wondering if I’d just be wasting my time.

ETA I guess what I’m asking is if the remake is in conversation with the SNES game at all and would therefore benefit from knowing the original game well or if it’s just a straight up remake

I’m still at the beginning but my impression so far is that it’s a mostly pretty faithful straight-up remake. They did add a line to Toad’s tutorial at the beginning though where he mentions the new save system and says something like ā€œthat’s progress for you!ā€.

I am pointing out every single tiny difference in the Mario rpg thread. Im doing the back to back playthrough with a long play but only when I need screenshots cuz I have the whole thing memorized

It was worth pretending to be Turkish so I could get Game Pass, most of the games I played weren’t very good but I still had a fun time playing them, I would not pay full price for it though, I’d worry too much about getting a return on my investment

HE SAYS THAT THE SAVE POINTS ARENT REALLY USEFUL ANYMORE BUT YOU CAN STILL USE THEM IF YOU WANT and guess what i do. i do want. i still use them

Oh cool! I forgot about the thread. Looks like the vibes are overall pretty positive! I’ll just play the switch remake and read the thread for differences! Much appreciated everyone
