I’ve never played Silent Hill, what’s a good way to start? Just Silent Hill straight through? Yeah Probably. Any versions better/worse that I should keep in mind?

Silent Hill 1. Play it on the hardware or emulation. Don’t feel bad about using a walkthrough if you get confused.
If you wanted to play SH2, you could go with the PC fan remaster.

I might try 4 first. I have never played a horror game but I feel like these games have level/puzzle design I might want to grok for my own horror game.

1 sets the template and has a really great atmosphere in general but there are some annoying 90’s game design features (outdoor enemies are more aggressive, random boring sewer level, whoops sorry you get the bad ending because you didn’t do five different things you would never notice) that make it feel slightly more of its time than others
2 is pretty straightforward and feels almost more like a narrative game in places outside of one or two more difficult spots
3 starts out weirdly hard and scary and pacing is kind of all over the place - but favorite art direction of any of the games. still need to finish
4 has a very unique atmosphere but lots of jank escorting bullshit
i’ve played some of Silent Hill Downpour on emulation and was pleasantly surprised how much it did pretty well for an edgy later seventh generation console Silent Hill made by an eastern european studio. feels kinda uncanny and slightly “off” as an imitation but still was pretty good from what i played.
but yeah i dunno starting with SH4 is probably fine. and if you don’t like some of the more tedious parts of that, they don’t necessarily carry over to the first three.

Here is a question for the forum. He mentions that they went with a packet to re-release a Japanese title, and was informed by the Japanese company that the Creative Director died and the whole series was off the table now.
What game/series do you think he was talking about? The comments said “Kenji Eno” or “King’s Field.”

D has been available on PC shops for years now. I think all the other Laura games were published by Sega? No idea who owns the rights.

Every time something TMNT that’s aimed at kids get announced all I see is nerds all angry that it’s not a dark and gritty thing inspired by the comics. The big gripe lately is that there was supposedly an R-rated adaptation of “The Last Ronin” storyline that’s in limbo.

Does anyone remember the Houston fast food Chinese restauarnt General Joe’s Chopstix? I got nostalgic cravings for their walnut tofu. It was tasty as heck and unlike most of the other food. I’m looking for a recipe but coming up empty handed
It had firm fried tofu chunks tossed with candied walnuts and sweer and spicy sticky sauce served on top of chopped lettuce with fried wonton strips in the side so they won’t be soggy.

friends which of the double dragon games are the real ones? i wish to double some dragons but there are one hundred billion different versions to choose from..

that’s a tough one
for NES, go Double Dragon II. it’s pretty hard until you get good at the platforming and timing of the knee attack, though. a breeze after that. kind of an iconic NES game imo
for arcade, DD1 is iconic and the most pure, but 2 is basically an upgrade kit that makes the game more playable. 1 is easier to 1CC and made more of a cultural impact, but the slowdown can be hard to deal with by modern standards.
I like Super Double Dragon a lot, but people are split on that one. the Japanese version (Return of Double Dragon) is technically better, but each version does something a little better than the other. if you like early SNES games and SNES bass lines in music, it’s worth a look, I think
Double Dragon Advance is very, very good. it’s basically a remake of DD1, but incorporates all the new techniques from Super (and adds more) and does it much better.
Double Dragon One for Neo Geo is a new fanmade game that is truly excellent. definitively “not real,” but more real than basically any other DD game in recent memory.
maybe worth playing
DD1 on NES is…interesting! pretty different game than the arcade, and introduces a leveling system where you gain new moves as you level up. I grew up with the Master System version, though, and that’s more of a straight-up arcade conversion, and is the one I prefer.
DD3 on NES is almost a good game. almost.

DD3 arcade is hilarious and not very good and more or less created (or is one of the earliest examples of having) microtransactions. in the USA version, you buy items from the shops by inserting more credits.
some folks like Double Dragon Neon but I am lukewarm at best towards Wayforward and the game leans heavily into kitsch which isn’t really DD’s thing imo
