Not exactly a Warframe fan, but I am hyped for Soulframe. I’ll take it if no one else speaks up.
Not meeting the Resident Evil criterion but Disaster: Day of Crisis
in software (or game) development, what is the term [is there a term] for being reliant/dependent on a piece of middleware? – specifically: middleware that you don’t own and can’t control, e.g. a proprietary engine or production tool maintained by a commercial third-party.
i’ve always heard this expressed (and expressed it myself) as “technical debt”, even though i know that’s not really how that term is “meant” to be used. but in my own brief search, i haven’t found any other popular terms which describe what i’m getting at, and i’m cautious to spin up an arbitrary neologism for fear of conflation. for example: terms like “dependency” are already semantically load-bearing in this field.
has anyone else encountered this expressed before? what would you call it? “tool debt”? idk…
does the term “vendor lock-in” suffice?
hmm… yeah that might do it! thanks.
Yeah, I don’t think the “debt” framing is a great fit. It may be a risk but it’s not necessarily deferred work the way “tech debt” (theoretically) is.
Anyone here played Resident Evil 4 VR / Any thoughts on it?
nothing specific. we track these sorts of things on a risk register and call them third party risks. or threats or vulnerabilities when we’re feeling grumpy at them
i’ve heard “sharecropping” for it regularly from a few people but that was never spoken to a manager’s face
Are there any modern collections of pachinko games akin to the zen pinball releases?
I know lots of pachislot games get mobile ports, and console ports used to be a thing. I don’t know if there’s like a central framework/emulator that you can buy expansions for.
It looks like PS3 may have been the last console with pachinko games:

Sega-Sammy is the biggest pachinko manufacturer but they seem to have confined themselves to pachislot in Yakuza: Like a Dragon:
what is to ‘security’ as ‘protection’ is to ‘safety’?
(asking for a friend)
assuming we talk about cyber-security here (hence the need to distinguish), so ymmv if that’s not the case:
hummm, you could say ‘security posture’ if it was about an equipment or Software, ‘hardening’ will also work in that context.
So I dug out my old cd-rom of Sam & Max Hit the Road, can ScummVM (or whatever would handle this) run the game via said disc or is that asking for trouble/gonna require more steps?
Yes you just need a few files from the disc. And like @Tulpa told me recently you should probably use DREAMM instead but ScummVM works fine still too
yep, DREAMM is a newer emulator just for lucasarts games. Scummvm reimplements the scumm engine whereas dreamm emulates it precisely and while there’s rough parity between scummvm and dreamm for the scumm games, I’ve found dreamm to be slightly friendlier to use (simpler options menus, really good roland support and a great crt shader)
Okay downloaded this and followed those directions and it was rather simple to get running (although the scanning/Installing phase took a worrying long period of time), thanks (Tulpa too)!!
has anyone played megaman x dive offline?
