Integral Launcher on PC is the fanciest current way
edit: apparently there are still certain framebuffer effects from the PS1 original that aren’t replicated here, but you do get some nice enhancements in trade
you could also go with Duckstation and the original game. put some Konami games on your virtual memory card.
I think we want vibration and all the “gimmicks” like psycho mantis for the full kojima experience. GOG says that’s not available vanilla but I can’t tell if this fixes it.
it was when i was rinsing through every emulated snes jrpg back in the znes days, so i probably cheated and got myself to max level immediately so i could pound through the plot
The transparency effects are out of control. Everything felt detached and slightly unreal. It felt like it never wanted us to feel involved in the plot. There are like 40 characters in your team right from the start and I barely managed to remember who was who for the whole game
There is one outstanding plot twist that is very uncommon for videogames. Nothing has made me hate Gamers as much as the Japanese reaction to that plot twist (that you might have heard about through cultural osmosis)
Combat wise it’s the loosest SRPG you’ve ever seen and it’s very easy. You can stack guys in your teams for ridiculous effects, stacking 4x movement guys allows you to move like 30 squares per turn. (Useless but funny) All your dragons are just flying around outside of your control and you can feed them all your random garbage to raise their stats. Very Kawazuesque. If you don’t pay attention you’ll feed them poison and they’ ll turn into a terrible pathetic dragon. But if you then feed them too much poison they’ll become an extremely powerful Poizn dragon. Etc. Eventually the main character’s dragon can become literally invincible and you can win maps by just letting him do everything
I stopped playing them around the time but I remember NFL Gameday ‘97 being the big/”important” one that put a scare into Madden. Good odds there’s a later one that surpassed it but if you end up having to take a blind shot it might not be the worst option.
am i really going to be the first one to mention ISS (from Konami, not the space station) because i don’t understand the concept of football that’s played with a instead of ?
It’s been one week since we started to decide what games we want to remember from 1986. See Let's Create a Canon for 1986. With Dark Castle and Trinity earning top honors, (And several great posts on top) I’d say the thread has been a success. I’d love to see more people post in that thread and it’s a format I want to try again later for another year. I have two questions.
