There’s a handful of Wii U stuff I still wanna play, but probably not actually on my Wii U…probably my Steam Deck.

Anyone know if it’s a real pain in the ass to toggle between the screens and stuff for…say…Twilight Princess HD?

I know everyone’s gonna say “Don’t play that game it’s bad” or “just emulate the GameCube version” or “Grandpa just hook up your Wii U and play it it’s not that complicated” but…y’know.

What would you call this sample https://modsamplemaster.thegang.nu/sample.php?sha1=8d55763ad9136b3b71daac10df1ed910e286f8d7 as in, what kind of synth instrument or effect would you refer to it as

a “patch”. it sounds like a FM synth chord with some reverb + tape hiss

I’ve heard the word ‘patch’ a couple of times in relation to synth but don’t actually know what it’s properly defined as… >_>

a sample of settings exported from whatever software

in analog its literally an electrical circuit you’ve created by connecting two points with a patch cord

i think

i think it’s generally used to mean “a program that runs on a synthesizer”

with physical modular synths, you transform a signal by routing it through sets of circuits using patch cables

but also keyboard synths will have pre-built internal “patches” you can select with numeric indices

and patches are also the names for programs in software-based modular synthesizers

Does anyone remember a parental guideline list from the ps2 era about what games parents should avoid letting their kids have and one of them being "Gunslinger Girls Vol 2 (PS2)”. The English speaking internet at the time went “what?”

EDIT Found It.

I hate that 30+ years of indoctrination has made it to where I can read the correct words “Mortal Combat” together and blink and say “what the fuck is that.”

i fucked around just now and got something vaguely like that sample (warning: jumpscare-loud)

take midi input, turn it into a string of repeating 8th notes, generate a minor 7th cord based on it, route that to a karplus-strong plucked string simulator algorithm synth, run it through an effects chain with distortion, feedback, and a granulator

the thing you sent is noisier though, i want to have another go at making that sound more precisely (probably a different basic synth sound, some reverb, mess with the equalizer a bit), it would be fun to have a silent hill instrument like that

i would imagine the original patch is also taking a single midi note and making a minor chord from it though?

I got it wrong! the patch is as others say above, but when you sample a particular patch playing something with some effects it’s a “pad”. I put the patch on the left of my setup, and the pad on the right

the sample you originally linked to has been slowed down too, to get that underwater feel

this covers more about how these sorts of pads are made and used. I’m in (silent) heaven

nvm it’s fine
