As for Space Quest III, it’s definitely not in the same league as QFGI, but I mention it as a good way to get a taste of what the more conventional Sierra style felt like at its best.
The Space Quest series could feel tense & ominous rather than purely comedically sadistic, and I find screenshots of III especially striking
so i’ve been putting off the hassle to get into dragon quest 10 for over a year now. i would need to spin up my own vpn on linode or something because i don’t trust the commercial ones and then set up all of the translation tools and so on (which i believe can break on major updates)
this is going to be Extremely Linuxbrained
would anyone be interested in a thread documenting my wacky antics getting this thing running and starting a new quest…?
god i’d think about joining you, it’s always on my mind too. i haven’t taken the time to really figure out how much of a headache it is to get going though. and i am Not Linuxbrained
I think I heard somewhere the US doesn’t need a VPN anymore? Unclear if that means Canada too but I did have it on my list of things to check out on Switch or PS5 down the line
Found myself booting-up Gauntlet IV on a whim just to prove how feeble both Child Me and Adult Me are at trying to play this game on its own terms (which is, suffice to say, a markedly savage affair)
I suppose this is more a general question as to how does one Do Gauntlet?
I did on my old 4k tv and it was fine but now I guess i’d look it up to see if it adds some new awful feature that makes movies look like shit you cant turn off or something first
Does anyone know what the Twitch emote ‘raccattack’ usually means? I’m doing research on Twitch chats and this is the only one who’s meaning I’m unfamiliar with and can’t find online
Does anyone remember a story during final fantasy 13’s development of Squeenix having a woman in their art department whose sole job was to create tilings for the roads in the game nicknamed “Cobblestone girl”? I swear this was brought up on an old episode of Warning! A Huge Podcast! but I can’t find anything online text wise to confirm this wasn’t a fever dream I had.
If anyone could find a reference to what I’m talking about I’d appreciate it.
The thing is I can believe it because i remember how they had so many weird assets left over from 13/versus 13/et al. and people on 15 were assigned to only model food items and shit
I talk about Cobblestone Girl all the time. Yes it is from a WAHP. About two years ago I tried to find reference to it on Japanese internet but it would have been buried in a long dead 2chan thread.
it was (or maybe still is) on pc game pass and i found it a bit … tedious! lots of systems that are rather opaque and fiddly, at least on first play.
to be fair, this is a critique that applies to uh most 4x games. someone that plays more 4x could maybe elucidate if this one does anything particularly different. i always quit well before i finish a full game in any of them.
the closest i’ve had to having fun in the genre is MoO, and even that’s a little too much for me. i did enjoy slipways, but i’d argue it’s enough of a deconstruction that it plays much more like a puzzle game than a 4x. theoretically there could be a 4x board game that i’d enjoy if the rules were elegant and concise enough. i just prefer to understand what my decisions are actually doing.
