Quick Questions XV: Episode Prompto

I think gmg and fanatical are safe as i’ve bought from them without issues/not having keys revoked later on

I would count Dokapon: Monster Hunter as being part of this legacy:

It’s different enough that I wouldn’t blame you for not counting it though. I just remember playing it as a kid, then playing Shiren years later and going “OH, this is what they were ripping off!”

Do we have a fashion thread? Sometimes I find myself hunting for a particular article of clothing and wish I could see what everyone else on here thinks is cool.

Ah thank you, sorry, should’ve looked harder.

honestly i think it used to be named the “fashen” thread making it unsearchable, i dunno when it got renamed!!

Yeah, Fanatical seems to have worked just fine. Even got the pre-order extras. Thanks!

What movie had a scene of a kid playing Street Fighter The Movie The Game towards the start? (90s? Opening took place on a snow mountain)

Should I play Diablo 1 or 2? How do I play Diablo 1 or 2?

I grabbed 1 off of GoG and played a bit of it in 2020

You can get the 2 remastered edition (which is very nice) off of Blizzard’s client, Battlenet. It’s… it’s Diablo 2. I wouldn’t spend 40 bucks or whatever it is just to see what all the fuss has been about, I don’t think it holds up significantly unless you are a very particular kind of sicko.

Diablo 1 is well worth it, a legitimate atmospheric experience, and yeah you can get if off gog. Blizzard doesn’t have it on their own service, hilariously.

I don’t think it’s worth playing Diablo 1 for more than 2 hours. You will hurt your hands playing it. But the atmosphere is really strong.

Last I played Diablo 1 it was trying to play the PS1 version (enhanced lighting FX! : ]) as a roguelite, with

⸸ No memorie cardes.
⸸ No retornynge to towne.

Sorta worked but probably wouldn’t after a while. ^ _^

ooh nice, i should mess with this. i’ve been wanting to play diablo 1 again but boy does it mess up my wrist to click so much!!

@Rudie Diablo 1 is a genuinely good game, it’s the only diablo game that really rewards taking things slowly and picking at the dungeon like a puzzle you solve by killing it. It’s also got great atmosphere, and it’s not a million hours long. The equipment really matters and that’s nice, and it hasn’t shaken all of the Rogue/Nethack stuff yet so it has really weird edge cases. It’s a fun fun game! I highly recommend it to anyone who’s interested.

Diablo 2 is Everything Wrong With Modern Gaming With None Of The Niceties Of Modern Gaming which IMO is interesting historically. But I played through it recently with a friend who had never played it and…I dunno. I would have been frustrated with it if I didn’t know exactly what I was doing. It’s got a great, great soundtrack though and I think it’s genuinely atmospheric up until Act 4, which is godawful, but then Act 5 is good again. Sort of. It’s kind of a mess. If it fell off the back of a truck I’d recommend playing the first act, then you’re probably fine.

if you dont like diablo 2 at least talk to warriv in the rogues camp enough so you can hear him talk about smoking weed before you stop playing

To hit percentages, combat pacing, and positioning-being-unimportant really kill diablo 2 for me. All of those things appear to be resolved in 4.

accuracy and gear dependent damage does make attacking builds across the board harder which is a serious issue with D2. barbarians and amazons are particularly ugh in the early game because of it.

imo if you’re gonna play D2 for the first time and want that character to cruise to the end without much frustration, roll a summoner necromancer. minimal clicking other than cursing and corpse explode bombing bosses and you barely need offensive stats on your gear once you find a nice +summoning wand
