Ridge Racer 2 (PSP 2006) & Ridge Racer Type 4 (PSX 1998). The former is the most content-rich as a total series overview while the latter is just-about the finest racing game on Sony’s 1st Console (because I suck at Gran Turismo)
I wanna give a shout out to Rage Racer for being a criminally underrated RR game on the PS1. Really love the track layouts in that game.
ridge racer type 4 might be the most aesthetically beautiful racing game ever, plus you can have a semi-romantic friendship with a rich french girl plus REAL RACING ROOTS NINETY NINE IIIIIIIIN HELTER SKELTERRRRRRR
ridge racer 3d is all the luxury of the psvita, but in the cosy clamshell of the 3ds
Rave Racer in Mame is also a delight.
the rage racer tracks are very good
all of them are included in RR2 for PSP!
What are the best indie games in the past year or two? Am I just blind or…
based on what has interested me personally and recs i’ve gotten from other people i know, i’d say like:
SIGNALIS
Norco
IMMORTALITY
Betrayal at Club Low
Pizza Tower
24 Killers
these are just from last year and this year so far. i’d throw like Cruelty Squad or The Forgotten City in there if we’re including 2021 also.
freedom planet 2 is a really good platformer but its stage-only mode is locked behind story mode. story mode is… an acquired taste (furry webcomic)
you can edit your save on PC to unlock classic mode from the start
pentiment is not indie per se but it is small and excellent
Does OlliOlli World count as an indie, as that was pretty neat and came out last year.
I can’t believe they haven’t patched this
I’ll add
Neon white
Case of the golden idol
Unsighted
People sure liked Card shark and Inscryption but I didn’t
Citizen sleeper, Hyper demon and Saturnalia look hot
Can I yell Sakuna of Rice and Ruin again?
Incidentally, I tried this over the weekend and I’m very charmed but I don’t see myself making time for it just yet. Somehow, I missed that it was an action platformer.
I’m trying to list all the Mystery Dungeons, AKA Shiren-likes. Let me know about ones I missed.
Shiren 4: The Eye of God and the Devil’s Navel (DS)
Whoa ^_ ^
i had no idea baroque is a shiren is that true
it’s not a roguelike, but there’s a shiren-themed soccer management game on gba
there’s at least one etrian odyssey 3ds mystery dungeon game, and there’s also nightmare of druaga on ps2
as for games that aren’t part of the mystery dungeon series, there’s the two izuna the unemployed ninja games (ds), adventure labyrinth story (3ds), one way heroics is on a bunch of systems, and some of the ports actually have guest characters from the shiren series!
(i’m assuming a shiren-like requires some kind of story and character progression that happens between runs)
I always thought Baroque was a Shiren descendant:
- Levels have lots of little rooms with orthogonal corridors and big pretty tiles
- You can stash items and retrieve them on future runs
- Hallucination gas makes everything look like the same hot lady
I figured they came up with the game by mixing Shiren and King’s Field (which has the same combat where the player moves slowly, but enemies are even slower).
@loki , thanks for the recommendations! I just got a bunch of games to check out.
This summer, I think I want to try to make a video game. I have never made one before.
I envision it working like Moon RPG Remix or Chu Lip where you move a character around a map, talk to people, and “solve” puzzles. I imagine RPG Maker would be the best tool for my level of knowledge, but I think it would be better to ask you all if that’s true and if so, which version would be best.
How bad of an idea is it to try to save myself 10 bucks (which is more money then it used to for me given record low exchange rate of the Swedish krona) on buying a SF6 Steam key through green man gaming or similar such sites instead?
