Quick Questions XV: Episode Prompto

So am I understanding it right that shipping from Japan is permanently broken because of anti-fentanyl policies?

Japan Post royally fucked international shipping by pulling services to most countries “due to COVID” and has been very slowly restoring services over the last year. Canada was one of the impacted countries and we have gotten most shipping options back as of last month.

I don’t know anything about it being related to fentanyl

I turned out not to understand it right. The STOP Act just led to handwritten shipping labels not being accepted.

left alive and balan wonderworld are both very interesting!

balan wonderworld is one of my favorite platformers of recent note, though ironically the platforming in it is not very good! it mostly gets by on sheer absurdity and a creative vision that is both stupidly unique and uniquely stupid

some of the music whips hard

left alive is a confused, player-unfriendly survival/stealth affair (with front mission mecha flavoring) that tries to get you to Make Important Decisions and is PS2-core in a sorta endearing way. very frustrating to actually play - you already know if you’re a sicko who’d be into that i imagine lol

I am going to anti-recommend Indivisible. (I just didn’t like it when I played it, tbh). Great art, a few cool mechanics. Sorta not the best writing. Less than than the sum of its parts, kinda?

Mario 64 introduced diorama playgrounds to 3D action games. Later games improved the visual fidelity of the items in the playgrounds, but put up barriers around the edges and objects that were designed for visuals and not play activity. Balan is one of those later games, but they didn’t put up the “no climbing” signs.

i miss pre-covid japanese shipping. i was buying a couple of famicom games every month, because even with shipping they’d be less than £5 each

Are there any mame rom revisions worth checking out? within the same region i mean. Especially bootlegs. but not really fighting games bc there are so many. metal slug 6 I guess is one.

dinosaur hunter is a really fun bootleg of cadillacs and dinosaurs. enemies do more damage, but a lot of the guns now have infinite ammo.

it can matter if you are trying to do exploits that were later patched

e.g. in the first version of galaga, you can leave a few specific enemies alive and just dodge without firing for up to 20 minutes and then for the rest of the game, none of the aliens will shoot. the later revision patches this out

wow in my head i thought this was about scalebound but no that was immediately before this and cancelled for similar sounding reasons

All the Scalebound developers on the Microsoft side apparently had no idea what Platinum was trying to make. They remember the project as utterly confused
