If I am looking for some existentially-tinged scifi/fantasy with like Thanatologists and souls being split and transmuted and recreated, crap like that, is Torment: Tides of Numenera good for that?

The game is ok. Original Planescape is better but you might be better off poking into Tom Jubert’s stuff like The Swapper and Talos Principal.

Good suggestions, but I’ve already played those. I really liked The Swapper.
Oh, and it looks like Torment is on sale on gog.com right now through their current big sale. I’d be okay with a relatively mediocre successor to Planescape: Torment, but if it’s just generally kind of mediocre then that doesn’t sound worth it.

Whenever I try to play FFXIV or Destiny I never last long enough to get to all the cool stuff, i guess

Next time I get the itch to grind, I will definitely return to one or the other and will join up with you all. It seems like an exciting year for both games. Been waiting for that abridged questing experience for the ARR content, and Destiny seems to be alive.
