Quick Questions XIV: A Question Reasked (Part 1)

i put 1500 hours into world of tanks on a busted little laptop during a winter depression back in 2012. the marketing brings in all the gung-ho codbros but the game actually demands an incredible amount of patience and planning. the kind of game where you can load a match, wait ten minutes for some action, then fuck it up and die literally instantly. you can die without ever even seeing an enemy if you play poorly. lots of hide and seek and a heavy focus on maintaining visual cover at all costs. punishing. many different playstyles available and they all significant contribute to the team in different ways. i was genuinely impressed at how challenging and well-thought-out it was. haven’t touched it since though so i don’t know what it looks like now or what all the console spin-offs entail.

Easiest can’t say the challenge brings anything. It’s a ride.

Yeah WoT has surprisingly deep gameplay and is like pseudo-based on real tank statistics. It’s not a simulator but it’s not an arcade game either. Its core audience/whales seems to be a combo of gen X military history nuts and like 19 year old kids smoking in European internet cafes who want to get extremely good at a deep competitive game and would have been playing Counterstrike 20 years ago.

This is the the exact audience of every mil-sim or online fps set in WW2 and I love it.

it’s a different category than WoT as has already been said but along the same lines something i really appreciate about hardcore historical accuracy-oriented milsims is that they convey the arbitrary chaotic unfairness of actual war in a way that is totally antithetical to the dynamic design values that make competitive military shooters appealing as games in the first place. and like instances of the meta shifting not based on developer balancing but through changes made as a result of irl historians unearthing new information about specific tanks/guns/etc.

I spent a good chunk of last week trying to catalog some photos taken during WWI, and did World of Tanks stuff sure clog up my search results for reference images whenever tanks and field guns were involved.

does the european version of otogi 1 support pal60/is it pal optimized? i can’t find anything about this online

Completely depends on your skill-level, both smiles + bosses get a fair bit harder; puzzles don’t change much. The rest is window dressing, my friend

whats a good reputable place that sells gdemu boards

What is it like to play a game with as fucking weird soundtrack as Evergrace?

boring (unfortunately)

Even though the music is interesting, it’s used in the regular manner of different tracks playing in different areas. It gets rendered into background noise, elevator music that you barely notice as you focus on kiting enemies, reading stats, and tapping the same combos again and again.

Was I the only one who wasn’t aware how much changing the battle speed in classic Final Fantasy games affected game balance and not just by giving you more or less time to pick your commands when the ATB is set to Active?

In several games it doesn’t even affect your own battle speed, just the enemies, which makes it a hard difficulty modifier.
