Quick Questions XIV: A Question Reasked (Part 1)

I believe the radio stations are so good because the Housers worked for BGM before getting into games so they still have all their music industry contacts to draw from when deciding what music to use.

I’ve always liked the music that ends up in the games regardless but I think I like the newer trend of having actual game specific compositions for the rest of the game. All the Tangerine Dream music in GTAV is great and I wish every big game had something like that.

Ok but 4’s (very long lol) loading screen has this sick hot beat

Compared to 5’s boring ass Paul Greengrass cinematic action tension ambient thing

If I were a couple years younger I’d write a v long post about how this was emblematic of all the differences between these games

The proper way to listen to Michael C. Hunt’s (aka Michael Hunter) composition The Soviet Connection is on endless repeat for as long as you can stand it.

GTA V’s theme was composed by Oh No.

each gta is formed from the times they were made in

is it possible to play the added episodes in quake remaster and the episode with the directors cut version of some original level in my dos box quake setup or do they need some modern source port thing? sorry quake and doom modding are things I like reading about but actually know zero about doing anything with myself

What is the difference between Travis Touchdown and Duke Nukem?

Not sure, but if you put them together you get Davis Touchem

Yeah, Travis Touchdown is clearly not a wish fulfillment character so much as an object of critique

Should I be concerned my microwave kills the wifi?

Not really as far as safety goes, but you should switch to the 5Ghz band on your wifi to avoid the problem. It’s usually the more reliable band for other reasons anyway.

yeah microwaves typically only interfere with 2.4ghz and that has been slooooooow for like a decade now. range is marginally better if you have a real bad router / a huge space / concrete walls, and some devices that don’t need speed will only connect on 2.4, but 5ghz should be the default for all your computers, and virtually all modern routers have both bands, usually under different access point names

I think Dimensions of the Past works on normal ass Quake and doesn’t need a fancy limit lifting port. Not sure about the new one though.

I have finished all Quake Remastered.

Is there a reason to play Quake 64 dlc? What differs from the base game? Hardcoregaming101 suggests that it’s a somehow cut version of the vanilla quake (at least, this is my understanding). Is it son or does it deserve to be played after all the rest?

It’s fun to mess around in because of the visual differences; the altered architecture and colored lighting and crt filter all make it for an aesthetically unique thing

However, it is pretty much a gimmick, would not play it if you just want new content.

IF that’s what you want, though, I can recommend a few great level packs to grab using Quake Injector

Thanks for the info!
Do you know if it would be possible to inject level packs in the Switch remastered version?

oh you’re playing on switch, I don’t think so, unfortunately.

you’ll have to wait for the devs to add in level packs like they did for doom

The big ones for me are Death Stranding and Red Dead Redemption 2. Those are dazzling looking games. Psychonauts 2 has been wonderful to look at and I’m pretty sure it would require a decent video card to get as good looking as it does. Receiver 2 is another with less show offy presentation, but what it does with surfaces, shadows, physics (glass shattering!) feels like sheer technology.
