Quick Questions XIV: A Question Reasked (Part 1)

if i’m going to play a ps2 version of ff12, should i go with vanilla or the english patched IZJS?

Vanilla, 100%

IZJS is an afterthought and they didn’t fix it until the ps4 rerelease.

all it took was two posts about ff12 and i’m thinking “yeah i wish i had time to do a new game minus playthrough”

Kid Icarus arrived in amazing condition and even that disk won’t load so, sadly, i have begun the return process on the FDS itself ;–;

i’ll have a working FDS one day, but today is not that day

I had a Twin Famicom once and it was the most beautiful console but actually playing games off disks was a nightmare. I rarely used it and I still had to do frequent maintenance.

I’d def buy a Twin Famicom again if I could but there’s no way I’ll ever use disks. I may buy some for display though, Eggerland has some great box art.

yeah, i get the impression that the FDS in general is a bit of a nightmare to deal with and its hardware has not held up super well.

emailed a few places around town to see if they do repairs/can troubleshoot with me. eBay seller will probably not offer a refund for this since i’m using an NT Noir and don’t feel like lying to them about that.

a while ago someone posted a link to an album by a Japanese composer that I think they described as “tycoon-style” work music, but I can’t find it anymore. If that person is reading this, could you please let me know what it was!?

is anyone aware of a modern dodge roll mechanic (iframes to dodge through attacks) in a game released before shock troopers

did King of Fighters have the dodge roll before then?

in case anyone is interested in what is happening with this, or maybe someone on the internet finds it one day, it seems like i’ve really delved into super niche territory here, and i’m starting to see some conclusions that, despite Analogue’s claims, the FDS does not actually reliably function with the NT Mini Noir.

i emailed them the other day and they got back to me quickly - they recommend cleaning the pins (no need to do this) and to see if the firmware is the most up to date.

since i jailbroke my Noir, i’m going to do a Factory Reset when i get home, and then update with the official firmware, to see if this makes any kind of a difference.

ultimately, the conclusion seems to mostly be that if you want to play FDS games on the Noir, then you should probably just load them from an SD card lol.

but hey, i have one now, so maybe i’ll pick up an actual Famicom one of these days.

Is there any clarity yet to how the PSP store shutdown on July 2nd will work? I thought you already couldn’t access it any more through the PSP console and with web store redesign the only way to buy anything was through the PS3 (which can transfer games over USB) or the Vita store for those that are backwards compatible. So will they be removing all the PSP software (including the cross platform Minis) from the PS3 and Vita store after the date despite those staying up otherwise?

They haven’t really said, to my knowledge.

Got an Occulus Quest 2. VR game suggestions please.

After emulating some PS1 games, I realized I’m into high resolution sprite scaling. Are there Neo Geo emulators that run in high resolution for better sprite scaling?

I answered that in another thread (which I’m only mentioning bc I’m about to post here and I don’t want to be rude), in short, no.

I’m thinking of getting the crew 2 from the current epic sale because in my senescence I mostly want to pilot machinery. Can anyone tell me if this is a good or a bad decision

IIRC @Rudie had measured praise for it

Speaking of the Epic sale, I see Grindstone is on there after its period of exclusivity on Apple Arcade. With the coupon epic is giving out I can get the game for about $5, is it worth it?
