Quick Questions XIV: A Question Reasked (Part 1)

It’s pleasant on length as I remember it. Didn’t overstay its welcome.

I would like a few fighting games for my PS4, to play with people when they come here. What are my best options?

What kind of fighting games do you usually enjoy with your friends?

AS 1:1 fighting games, Street fighter, Tekken… I haven’t tried other series

As side scrolling games, Streets of rage 4 (and from the time when I was a child, I remember Cadillacs & Dinosaurs and Violent Storm).

king of fighters xiv, soul calibur vi, guilty gear xrd, and dragonball fighterz would probably all be crowdpleasers in one way or another

as for beat em ups, alongside streets of rage 4 in the modern beat em up renaissance there’s ninja saviors, and if you like cadillacs and dinosaurs, then capcom beat em up bundle would be a safe bet too. it doesn’t have cad, but being capcom games from around the same period, the games it does have are very similar to it.

This isn’t an answer for the psp version but I couldn’t play past the running sequences on Wii because the waggle wouldn’t register most of the time. I was able to play comfortably thru ps2 and had a good time with it, am thinking psp wouldn’t be far removed from that experience even without the 2nd analog stick.

Guilty Gear Xrd is my personal favorite and I was able to draw in a whole group of friends who hadn’t much played fighters before. It has a huge roster of really different personalities and playstyles. You can play it really casually just seeing what every character can do.

so absurd that they did this to a silent hill

It even has (the previously arcade-only, I think?) Battle Circuit, which is truly nuts and has the best playable characters in the genre. The bundle’s worth it just for that.

Thanks guys for the wonderful advice!

The upcoming Guilty Gear Strive seems to be attracting a lot of hype from the fighting game community. It’s a major engine+artwork+balance revamp and judging from the beta test, it has exceptional netcode. If you can wait until the summer and you’re considering a Guilty Gear anyway, it might be a good pick. I’m planning to give it a spin after not touching fighting games for years myself (I was a casual Guilty Gear XX player back when it came out).

what is #sex2 and no i won’t just google it?

Similarly the Street Fighter Collection is probably what you want.

Having not seen this and with zero context my gut instinct is it is like the meme of “sex isn’t real no one has ever had sex” so complete nonsense. I could be wrong.

not this but I wish

I would add a word of caution about Strive. They’ve upped the damage and limited characters’ unique gimmicks making it feel more like Street Fighter. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it’s fundamentally different from XX and Xrd
