I played the first one back in the day and wrote a review for EntDepot. I was not impressed with it but it was neat in that it was one of those early DS games that tried to build itself around the features of the hardware like scraping the touch screen to dig up rocks and yelling/blowing into the microphone to hatch your Spectrobes once they’ve incubated.
I never played the other games so I can’t comment on them.
dark phoenix never stopped being good, the general player base just got much better at rush down and shutting phoenix players down before they got 5 bars and the only players who continued to play phoenix were people with very very good defensive play (fchamp) or had a shell set up so that they could get 5 bars easily (ryanLV)
at the end of the day dark phoenix is still pretty tough to set up for your average player, you’re essentially betting on your own skill to set it up because you’re locking yourself out of using supers for basically the entire match, turning what would normally be aggressive shells into “honest” shells. you’re betting on winning most of the scramble situations and winning neutral honestly
also vergil anchor is just way easier to execute for most people and doesn’t require a huge amount of setup - even if you use xfactor level 2 with vergil it’s still pretty oppressive so a lot of people just started sticking him at the anchor position
does anyone #onhere have strong feelings about resonance of fate/end of eternity… i’ve been curious about it for years but don’t really see it discussed anywhere often
it’s amazing. it’s got a super weird combat system that takes a long time to click for nearly everyone, but when it does, things are great, until the game fucks with you by taking party members away or challenging you in other ways. the story is strange shit with an OK amount of anime stuff. there are lots of cllothing options for the characters. and ridiculous guns.
it’s a lot.
also don’t buy it if you insist on getting platinums/every cheevo. Doing that requires beating the game like 8 times. I think someone around here did that, and was not happy.
Love Love Love it. Love it’s hypermaximalist cornball KIngdom Hearts non-comedy cutscenes. Love it’s overly complicated battle system. Love that the true ending is unlocked if you play through the game eight times. Love the baffling grid overworld. Love attaching 15 god damn scopes to a gun.
I’ve also only ever played it for 10 hours. Wow you helped me. That is absolutely the game I should buy and play for two hours a night for 3 months straight. Hell yes. Resonance of Fate!!
The game is supposedly 80 hours long. That’s too much video game.
Resonance of fate is worth it for having so many weird ideas and a striking setting but it doesn’t have legs.
It has a high skill floor and a low skill ceiling and every battle feels the same + too long after a point.
It’s disappointing that you can make an incredibly cool gun that shoots backward directly in your face three times and suffer no negative consequences for it. I wanted to immediately die
