I’m going to finally play FF6 on my SNES Mini. Is there a definitive romhack that’s worth the bother to put it on the Mini?

I’d say just go classic SNES NA as its the most commonly known or familiar, perhaps definitive for english speakers and the couple bigger bugs are rarely (normal) affecting exploits.

I guess someone could make an argument for a romhack with more accurately translated dialogue from the GBA (FFVI advance) version, but I don’t know it personally and can’t compare. I’ve heard it’s overly literal?

If I was to play again I’d probably go

yeah vanilla ffvi is totally fine

there are a number of good romhacks for the GBA version that fix some of the egregious stat bugs in the SNES release (that might be the stock GBA rom actually), improve the script while still keeping the Woolseyisms (a project I very much admire considering how overly literal many of Square’s retranslations from the 2000s were), and fix the colours/music that were downgraded from the SNES

but if you’re playing the SNES version I’d just play it straight

Playing it straight sounds like the way to go! Plus this way I can follow all the 1998 gameFAQs walkthroughs and read all the 2004 sprite webcomics that definitely hold up and were always good and still good, in perpetuity

the bugs are part of the charm

I have a small hdtv I want to use as a second monitor but the computer I’m using doesn’t have any hdmi/dvi slots, only usb. Is there an hdmi-to-usb converter I can buy to use the tv as a second monitor?

If you have usb-c or thunderbolt 3, then the answer is an easy yes. Otherwise it’ll be a question of balancing cost vs crappiness.

Just regular usb is what I have to work with here.

what video outputs, if any, does it have?

I’ve said it before but FFVI’s original English script is the only time I felt like Woolsey was really straining against the cartridge size (especially compared to his work on secret of mana and chrono trigger) so, thinking on it again, I will gently go to bat for the woolsey-fied GBA script patch as probably the best English language version of FFVI

The computer? None. It’s one of those all-in-one HP desktops. My mom got it for me six years ago.

ah ha

This seems pretty good for the money, based on reading a bunch of the newegg reviews. I’d take a chance on it.

this one also seems good, for almost twice as much

I strongly recommend this version of the game

there’s a slight issue with it where sprites don’t always layer in the right order, I’m assuming because of some weird stuff they did to hack the text boxes, but it’s barely noticeable for most of the game.

does anyone have a q lazzarus - goodbye horses midi? its simple enough to transcribe but if anyone has one im trying 2 make a trap beat based on it
