Quick Questions XIII: Answers Return

Okay so there’s a chance I’m going to have some extra money and I really, really want to get a VR setup.

So here’s my video card:

It’s technically VR compatible but I don’t know if that’s the way to go.

Sooo if the main things I want to do are:

  • Play Superhot VR
  • Play Virtual Boy games
  • Chill in random environments
  • Watch youtube videos in the virtual woods
  • Play Gamecube games in VR

I kiiiiiiiiiiinda want an Oculus Quest (hooray wireless) but like…it’s a little too locked down for me. And I know it would rule out things like emulation, etc.

Anyone have opinions on what’s my best option? I do not have a PS4.

The RX 480 seems comparable to the GeForce 970 which I used for Oculus DK1/2 stuff in 2014-2016 – I think you’ll be fine. Superhot VR is pretty lightweight as far as VR games go, and the other things you listed aren’t too high-impact either. Go for it? Newer/fancier stuff will be a stretch but I don’t think you’ll miss any essentials and the sales of the Quest will probably drive target specs in general closer to that platform.

what’s your budget for a videocard?

I think they’re saying that they have that videocard and their budget is for VR gear and they’re looking for advice on which gear will best pair with that card.

your best is to keep an eye out for deals on WMR stuff because a set of goggles and controllers are usually going on sale for 150 bucks

does this site have a purple theme?

mauve’s mauve is (dark) mauve, one coin has purple accents

I was working on one, but never finished it because it didn’t seem like anybody really used themes outside of default.

I just wish the themes could change the SB logo colors, because the clash makes me just end up sticking with the default.

yeah, i couldn’t find an easy way to replace the logo when i was dicking around with themes, but maybe it’s an option they’ve added to the recent versions? i’ll have to look into it. (i didn’t want to do it via css overrides, because that feels janky)

i can work on a purple theme if i know what kind of purple theme people want (purple fill or purple accents? purple leaning towards blue or purple leaning towards red?)

maybe i’ll make a thread for theme requests and then work on the most requested color schemes?

use the css hue rotate filter (lol)

i like that obnoxious one you were working on but like booji said the clash at the top is too much

That screenshot is of an older version before I had applied any re-coloring to the header area, but the header wasn’t black, and the icons weren’t green. I could probably hide the logo image using CSS, and then override it to call another image. Unfortunately, I don’t have my DigitalOcean account with the Discourse installation I had been using as a testing ground, so I can’t take a screenshot. It’s based heavily on the purple color scheme from Action Button.

I believe I had planned on overriding the logos with something like this:

I was kidding but I feel like this might actually look decent. this is what it looks like with filter: hue-rotate(180deg);

Might look decent enough at ~220 or ~286.
