Pokemon Home comes out sometime next month.

Ok, so basically it’s the new Pokemon Bank which was the other cloud subscription service they had on 3DS. This time there will be a limited free version available as well.

It’s a one-way trip for all mons going from anything other then Sword/Shield.

You can manage pretty much everything in Home with their phone app now as well as from the Switch app. This includes trading with people. They also removed the GTS and Wonder Trades from the games so they could make it exclusive to this app (still usable for free though).

There will be a surprisingly extensive Bulbapedia function as well which features the entire National Dex:

Something about achievements as well?

Anyway, the cost. It will be over 3 times as expensive as Pokemon Bank ($5 -> $15 a year). Pokemon Bank itself is also not included in this price so you’ll need to have both subscriptions running at once to actually transfer mons from your 3DS games.
As mentioned there will be a very limited free version available though:

I mostly want to know what happens to your 5970 other friends in the cloud if you let your subscription lapse. I feel like this is actually especially pressing since as a promotion upon release the 3DS Pokemon Bank will be free for 1 month. The idea here seems to be that you’d have a month to transfer over your entire collection to Pokemon Home but… then what? A large portion of it will likely never even be able to be transfered to Sword and Shield and no guarantee it will even get a chance in whatever sequel game. So if you really wanted to keep your core team from previous games around you’d be stuck paying the sub until they can actually go in a safe offline box in an actual game.

Maybe I’m overthinking this when I don’t even own Sword or Shield.

I was under the impression that even when I stopped paying for Pokemon Bank back in like 2014, those Pokemon just sit there until I start paying again… I hope that’s the case.

Would be interested to hear how they’re doing for you when you can check during the free month.

If that is the case though how will it work when there’s still a free version though? Will all the ones beyond your first 30 free slots just freeze in place?

ok this looks kind of awesome

This was my first thought. I sincerely hope that Nintendo starts deleting pokemon, fulfilling the Pokemon’s ultimate destiny as Digital Fleshbeings, and cementing Nintendo as extremely fucking cruel

That would be so funny

Pokemon Home is out now on both Switch and mobile. They give you a free Bulbasaur/Squirtle/Charmander if you download the app.

They also let you transfer over a couple of previously unavailable starters, legendaries and non-regional forms of pokes to Sword-Shield if you have them:

Pokemon Bank and the Transporter is now free for the next 30 days for those of you with 3DS gens. I’m curious if you could confirm how your previously dormant collection is doing @a_new_duck ?

Extra notes:

If you have your 'mons on Pokemon Bank and that 3DS account uses the same NNID as your Switch, you do NOT need you 3DS to transfer your ‘mons from Bank to Home. Home can poll Bank’s servers using your NNID and handle everything from the Switch’s end. It transferred over 1,427 Pokemon in like 4 minutes. I would imagine a manual 3DS->Switch transfer (which IS possible if you update Pokemon Bank on the 3DS to version 1.5 via the 3DS eShop) would take longer thanks to the 3DS’ shit WiFi.

Wait, my mistake. Alolan Raichu, Diglet and Meowth can all be transferred over. Guessing because they have other forms available in Galar?

Will fill you in as soon as I know! Will check soon.

Can report that they’re all still there!

The prospect of going back to my Pkmn Y file and figuring out who I might want to leave in the game is… hooboy.

Just rip off the band aid and take them all. Leave it a wasteland :bbcool:
If you ever get another Y-urge restart as a Nuzlocke.

That’s good though. Hopefully Pokemon Home will be just as generous. Haven’t been able to find an answer to how it decided which Pokemon will remain in your 30 free slots if that sub runs out because I assume the rest will just be frozen.

the first dlc came out for this this week and it feels phoned in like the rest of the game

I’ve been contemplating getting Poukémon Shield. Is Sword/Shield a big step-up from the previous games? Have they upped the difficulty any?

downed it if anything ;__;

Resurrecting this thread because I finally have a Switch and this game (Sword specifically)

Having an XP share right off the bat is such an improvement in quality of life

Realized the gym coming up was Fairy types, and after several games since their introduction I still can’t remember what Fairy, Dark and Steel types are actually weak to so I looked it up. Poison and Steel are effective against Fairy. Great, got none of that in my party.

Go to the wild area, immediately catch a Garbador and a Bronzor. In the process, my Corvisquire winds up evolving into a Corviknight, and it gains Steel typing and learns Steel Wing, lol. Looks like I’m all set.

Proceed to trounce the trainers in the Fairy gym, and at the climax of the battle against the leader, she gigantamaxes her cute little whipped cream-looking Pokemon and it turns into a building-sized, multi-tiered cake. Very Pinterest-friendly. I decide to disrespect her entire aesthetic by kaiju-ing my Garbador in response, and wreck that cake. Her 'mon uses some fancy moves and it starts regenerating health, but that’s okay, my Garbage bag is holding leftovers and through the power of trash is also regenerating health, so a few turns later the fight is over.

Great times in Mikey’s Headcanon

same, even after playing hours and hours and hours of pokemon games with fairy, dark, and steel types. what is that?

why can i remember that fighting types are weak to flying types, but not that fairy is weak to poison? neither makes sense

fairies are turned by cold iron, and because they live in mushroom houses their livers are at capacity 24/7

steel loses its temper in fire, it’s scuffed up by the ground, and it’s weak to fighting coz of that one scene in Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces where Sheriff Cable and Agent Desmond bend steel before and after their fistfight
