There isn’t a dedicated thread to it so i’ll say it here: the new Adventure Zone fucking sucks and this campaign has been everything i feared it would be when i learned Travis was DMing
like i’m usually a Travis defender but this is just so railroaded and boring in exactly the ways you would expect that guy to do it. at least Griffin’s railroading included some funny NPCs that earned their likability. Travis just has everyone be blandly likable while shutting down the players agency

Yeah I will almost always go to bat for Travis because when he hits, it’s often some of the funniest moments of MBMBAM. But this season of TAZ is straight-up indefensible.
We are are 11, I shit you not 11 hour-long episodes into the campaign at this point and absolutely nothing of consequence has happened. Like you said, everyone he introduces is blandly likable, with no wild quirks or memorable flaws, and the players are left to try to exist in this structured school setup without disrupting the status quo in any way.
I never imagined Travis would decide now would be a good time to hit us with a two-part sidequest where the party goes literally room-by-room through an old hospital and kills imps inside each room, with no impact whatsoever on the story. It’s mind-boggling.
Wondering if I should just wait till it’s over, then find some kind of supercut of Justin’s typically amazing character work.
The imp hospital thing sucked as a premise but i’m so starved for fun banter and actually playing the game (why did they even switch back to DnD if they aren’t going to engage with DnD mechanics??) that i still managed to enjoy it. And then it seemed like the plot was starting to go somewhere… so when it screeched back to a halt so each character can get interviewed by another bland NPC i was extra frustrated
I don’t want to project too much onto the others but Justin’s comments about not really playing the game or doing anything seem increasingly pointed. They all just sound bored, even Griffin who keeps valiantly trying to rescue the show by actually telling jokes and trying to make character choices that are relevant to the plot

I didn’t think hearing about how it was and that I have a problem would make me open up my podcatcher and download but hell.
Not leaving the house has strangely cutdown my podcasting time.
While I am here I finally quit Retronauts and have replaced my “mild background noise while I am in the shower to distact me from myself” with All The Small Games. I get to hear about two indie games I probably have not heard of and hear two married…white…Australian!..guys discuss them.
Their opinions are very very SBLite but I appreciate them being almost always upbeat and just happy to talk about a game. Something I’ve tried to bring back into my life.
