Sonic Riders’ intro does a great job at establishing a cool style and attitude that the game absolutely does not follow

Oh you all posting MMORPGs reminded me, I don’t even play Final Fantasy XIV, but this has to be the most incredible (or at least one of the most dramatic) opening cutscene to a videogame?? Considering the context of “we’re killing off the old failed Final Fantasy XIV and we’re making you watch it”
EDIT: Apparently the first 5 minutes or so of this intro, of the old world being destroyed, is literally what played on the old Final Fantasy XIV game when the servers were killed off. Absolutely incredible

Diablo 2’s intro is such boring storycruft in comparison. In retrospect that game really was the beginning of the end for Blizzard wasn’t it

the best part of the tekken 3 intro is the old dude booting the prison guard in the face to protect eddie. gets me every time
As a pure story intro cutscene, yeah that one’s…hard to beat.
The 2nd’s wasn’t quite on the same level but still good, the way Raziel appears and drifts into landing on that time gate/vortex at 3:43 is a brief, though incredible moment of cool.

I dunno why but I always interpreted the Charizard that appears here as being the cause of the fire that burned the tower at Ecruteak in the game. It always felt like the title screen of Lugia swimming and Ho-Oh flying were them fleeing away from the fire

Neo Contra is the dumbest game ever made, with the dumbest intro, and it’s magnificent. It’s just this amazing thing that you can’t hold to any standard beyond, yes, there it is. Appreciate that you were alive to witness.
