HOW IS THE ISLAND SANCTUARY MY HAND STILL HURTS

as daphny said (well specifically it was a moon blowing up but) you can see closer to the impact as you traverse the Blazing Wall, or if you check out the crater in the south of North Gridania. i think you’re at level for these areas now. also you’re gonna foul your culottes when you see Mor Dhona

i expected to be disappointed with the island sanctuary but i’m really enjoying it. very pleasant. nice tunes, enjoy wandering around digging potatoes out of the ground to chill music and having a separate island inventory. building a cool windmill and later a hot spring once i figure out how to get clams(?). bizarrely indepth supply and demand thing where you put mammets to work building furniture. letting your untouched minions have somewhere to actually hang out. it’s a treat imo

My Animal Crossing loving gf also plays this game and I got her so hype describing the Island Sanctuary… until we found out you have to complete Endwalker first. She’s on Heavensward.

Finally made use of data center travel to go back to my first world, and the Jades have expanded since I left.

I was planning on crashing my old FC, but it seems like most of them quit. Only two of them are still active, and they let their large housing plot expire. I guess it’s the way of online games that all of this is ephemeral.

The Callback Campaign is live through the end of September! If you think there’s a chance you’ll resubscribe in the next month or so (and you’ve been unsubbed for at least 30 days), give a shout in the thread or the discord so we can invite you back and we can all gain some benefits in the process.

As my previous post indicated, I’ve started in on Shadowbringers, but I did have one gripe with Stormblood that I haven’t seen mentioned elsewhere. They keep reiterating how overpowered the Warrior of Light is—lampshading it, even. Yes, they’re a veteran of a hundred dungeons and military engagements; yes, they have the Echo; yes, they metaphysically carry the blessing of Hydaelin as her anointed champion. They clearly want to justify exactly how the WoL can be an order of magnitude more powerful than the world-ending threats that they keep dismantling.

Having established this standard, Stormblood didn’t really play fair when it introduced a rival, someone who could completely best the WoL in a duel. “Oh, that’s good,” I thought, “now we’re going to have to figure out the source of this dude’s power so that we can have a hope of overcoming him. We’ll learn his terrible backstory and break his malevolent pact for strength and it’ll actually be a fair fight.” But, well: it’s never really addressed! Worse than that: in the climax of the 4.0 storyline, he junctions himself to the summoned dragon and should by rights be dramatically more powerful than when he kicked our asses, and yet we take him down like any other chump! He keeps saying that the WoL is getting stronger, but I dunno, that just didn’t feel like an earned win to me. This is a completely petty complaint about the story they chose to tell, and perhaps they will address this in later expansions.

I mean, you did gain 10 levels. I think that’s all Stormblood really does with it.

ShB and EW do a lot more work to personalize the sources of the WoL’s power and try to make it fit inside the game’s cosmogony. It never really succeeds.

i just mentioned this in the discord but i think i will try to resub soon. if the offer is still open for the campaign let me know. i finished stormblood the last time i played but i think there’s some post stuff i gotta finish up ( which overwhelmed me last time tbh )

was leveling dancer and drg

idk how social i’ll be. i’ve been wondering if i should just be by myself for awhile tbh so if it comes to leaving the fc to keep my brainworms from eating my alive and not spreading doomposting all over the fc chat, i just may do that.

I started Shadowbringers recently and it really is a step up from previous expansions in many ways.

I love how your introduction to the First is sort of a twisted version of your introduction to Eorzea way back at the start of ARR. When you arrive at the First, you meet a traveling merchant who looks a lot like the guy who drove you into Ul’dah at the start of the entire game. But this time, instead of giving you a friendly introduction and then driving off to eventually return and rescue you from danger 60 hours later… the guy gets eaten by monsters almost immediately, and then you later find his vomited up hand on the ground. That really sets the tone for this other world you’ve been isekai’d into!

But I remember the beginning of ARR is different depending on what class you start as. Do the different starting locations give you different introductory NPCs? And if so, does this introductory NPC in Shadowbringers change to look like that person?

the caravan driver is always the same. I think based on starter city you do missions with different scions to start? I’ve only started in gridania so far

Yeah, I started in Gridania before restarting in Limsa and though your method of transport is different in each opening—Gridania has a wagon while Limsa is obviously in a ship’s hold—all three openings have guys that look very very similar. Later in ARR you can find one of them who mentions he has brothers.
