ok, trying to remember how to play question:
so like, my gear level with my highest class (bard) is currently 484. to play the next ShBr dungeon, i need a level of 490 - since nothing my level (that is better than my current equipment) is on sale at auction, what are my options for quickly getting some better gear? just…doing roulette on level 80 dungeons? raids? what is most straightforward - i feel like i have good momentum lately and don’t want to lose it
do your daily roulettes and spend the tomestones of poetics you get from those on 530 gear from the tomestone merchant in the crystarium
Yeah to elaborate there is an “endgame best in slot” set for each multiple of 10 levels starting with 50 (the max levels of each successive expansion) that you can buy with the tomestones you earn in roulettes. There’s little blue sack vendors on the minimap next to the aetherites in the capital ciites: Limsa/Gridania/Uldahn for the 50 stuff, Ishgard for the 60 stuff, Kugane for the 70 stuff, and Crystarium for the 80 stuff.
They each have like a whole big list of gear that is for historical/glam purposes only (back when that level was endgame, those were the gear tiers that people worked their way through as successive patches were released). You just want the highest level stuff.
As you level other jobs it really pays to just buy the sets of tomestone gear in advance so you can slap it on as you hit 50/60/70/80. You don’t have to actually worry about gear on a piece by piece basis until max level.

I miss ffxiv so much!!! I came back for a day for a wedding and did ONE dungeon cuz I didn’t want to push it and my hand is better but it still hurts.
I might actually have to switch to kbm but starting over from scratch in like, the only game I’m any good at makes my stomach feel like it does when you randomly come across someone say something mean about you online
Looks like a exp boost is active on Faerie, meaning I have been properly incentivized to jam through the meager bunch of Masks I finished over at Cactaur on a new character.

I made a character on another server on accident. But now I’m actually on Faerie for real.
damn I should get back into FFXIV. Definitely sure now that my old buds are not active so I could actually transfer… will let you know if I do. Gotta do some thinking about my Game Ingestion Habits for the near future first…
if faerie is incentivized (which like never happens wth) you should be able to transfer for free too
no it didn’t actually have the boost, I thought I switched to Faerie after the game auto-placing my new character on a diff server but I didn’t and the incentive was for whatever realm I mistakenly joined.
Leveling is noticeably slower on Faerie! Oh well
