It’s remarkable how poor the UI is. It’s only now in the experimental branch that they allow crafting more than a single item at a time, as well as stacking the results with already present materials. This is really basic stuff and it took them three big updates on top of the base game to get there.

They are apparently adding a multi-player mode to this game in July. You can either form a team or run across other players randomly. I haven’t played the game in ages, but I might pick it up again if they do a good job with this.
I wonder if they’ve added very large lifeforms yet, as seen in those early previews.
I’m excited to lose another 40 hours of my life to this game
god i can’t wait to go back to this
next is out! it’s a lot prettier but i have no idea what any of these new crafting materials do lol
Hey look at that, it’s half off until the 27th on Steam. Welp, I guess it’s now or never.
It looks like you must have PS Plus to play online on PS4. I’m still waiting for that to become discounted again (hopefully before the next From Software game that I want to play).
I’d like it if in an update they changed it so that those small standard plants you can harvest were not on every single world. It would also be nice if there were not signs of civilization all over the place on every world, making it clear that you are never actually discovering anything new (as far as the story is concerned).
I think I will have to return to this game sometime soon, if for no other reason than to take some screenshots with the photo mode.
Yeah this game looks really pretty now from what I’ve seen! I don’t think it’s worth it for me to get back into it because none of the things they added interest me but y’all have fun. I’m a sucker for a good redemption story and I hope they can pull that off
Now or never? Are they averse to sales or…?
As a new player, I have no idea what was or wasn’t in place before this latest update.
The initial load-in was embarrassing and clunky enough (dropping down to three FPS at one point) that I very nearly refunded it on the spot, thinking it was just going to be incompatible with my system. It’s the first game I’ve played where GeForce Experience got it wrong.
Still, after that speed bump and a little tweaking of settings, I had a lot of fun. It really throws you into the thick of it, I died from radiation before I could even figure out how to switch from third-person to first-person, let alone what I was actually supposed to be doing!
Is there a character factory in this now?
yeah i was like ‘oh i played this ages ago i’ll be fine on Survival mode’ but then i died of heat exhaustion before i managed the first step in the tutorial quest
so i’m cruising on normal still, which is fine
I just got this for the first time and I’m having a lot of fun with it!
i’m a little mad that i spent a blueprint to get a window tile for my base only to find out it requires glass, which you can only get on a kind of planet i haven’t even seen yet. i have no idea what to prioritize or which options i have ultimately, which is kind of great, but also kind makes me worry if i’m putting resources into the wrong thing.
also walking around for 20 minutes trying to find a copper deposit is kind of a buzzkill (especially when i find out my inventory is full). i have no idea what stuff beyond essentials to keep for later, but with the limited slots maybe it’s not a save stuff for later kind of game?
anyway i like it! it’ s had me engrossed in a way a game hasn’t in a while, and the ambient soundtrack is great.
RE: Inventory, I wrote this almost 2 years ago so I’m not sure how relevant it is now, but here are my tips:
This may not be relevant if you are building a base, but I think it is still enough to keep you alive and moving.
Also don’t sell Electron Vapor or Antimatter since you need those for warp cells, but do make them into warp cells as quickly as possible so you can just shove them in your ship and free up the inventory space.
From what I’m reading I feel like everyone here would probably be better off playing Subnautica but I’m a cynic… Either way, can’t coop in Subnautica. Have they made it so you can actually play with friends or do you still have to meet by chance?
Apparently you pre-set a party of up to 4 players, then go wild (players can be anywhere in the galaxy but also still cooperate on missions)
hmmm, i haven’t seen any of those materials yet. my suit runs on oxygen and my thermal shields on sodium? they’re pretty easy to find. i’ve kind of needed different things for everything though, but i am doing some base/machine building. also opening treasure boxes from crashed freighters usually requires a few processed materials
all the materials are different now, any guide written before yesterday is gonna be way off
but yeah try not to hoard stuff because “i might need it later”. resources are generally super plentiful, some are just in more exotic or dangerous biomes. anything super rare that you don’t have an immediate use for can just be sold
also when you scan, look around thru your visor. the scan visor will show you the locations of mineral deposits and other resources. you’ll need a terrain manipulator to crack those open
also if you scan a planet while in space it’ll list the rare mats available there. stuff like carbon and dihydrogen exists everywhere
crafted refill items (like oxygen and fuel cells) seem to be way more efficient than using raw materials, and you can stack them now, so thankfully you don’t have to run around with a backpack full of 5 different rocks so you don’t get stranded when your ship is outta gas
