It’s a shame Carnby lost his moustache
edit: nvm they saved the original characters as dlc
as far as I’m concerned, Alone in the Dark games have a lifetime license to shamelessly lift from Resident Evil, given that RE would not exist without aitd
IKEA’s Markus office chair can produce so much static electricity that it might shut down your monitor upon sitting down in it or ruin a hard drive.
Some people have even grounded their chairs to prevent this
Gonna tag @VastleCania since upon searching to see if anyone has posted this I got a post saying you owned one.
I’ve spent years trying to figure out what’s caused all this interference across different homes and hardware setups and uh
Maybe it’s this chair??
I even bought another one last year after my old one broke!! (It was $20 used, I think.)
I wish…I wish I coulda gotten one of those fancy chairs…
holy shit yeah uh
i wonder if this explains the random, inexplicable crashes i’ve experienced across multiple computers
wild
EDIT: oh and thank you for pinging me!!
My first job out of college had a carpet that created massive static accumulation against my shoes. When I’d touch a front USB port on my tower after getting a coffee, the discharge would cause a sudden reboot
I got into the habit of touching the screws on the lightswitch panel when I walked by it to ground myself
It’s incredible that Capcom said for all those years that RE was inspired by Sweet Home (and gamers believed them), and didn’t mention AITD at all… like, come on guys.
Just replayed the first one just the other day, to remind myself. Still slaps, still one of the best female characters in vidcons (??? Yes.), still a great gunplay / melee balance that isn’t a character combo thing like DMC but also isn’t more of a pure thirps like Gears. B-game mastery.
By contrast, this one looks like it’s trying to compete in the AA space, can’t tell just from this what the combat is like, and Lieutenant Mira seems completely absent. I’m let’s say hopefully pessimistic about this one. But obviously I’m gonna give it a fair shake. Maybe they make the upgrade gracefully. It’s possible!
i remember an interview with the creator in dreamcast magazine (uk), and he was very angry about it
(the interview was promoting the in-development agartha, which i’m not sure ever got released?)
your recent posts have me at the precipice of deploying the “extraction thirps” concept. but I think it needs one more good word. returning to my slumber till it alights or w/e
Zzz… extraction thirps… zzz…
For the record this is something I’m still trying to get primary sources for. From the timeline this still seems like something popularized in the west in the early 00s, as emulation for the enthusiast crowd became easier, came up in interviews with american magazines like Miyamoto’s link to the delayed game axiom, and eventually made its way back to japanese press after that.
This doesn’t exactly contradict what ur saying but this interview with Fujiwara originally from 2003 he confirmed it (albeit prompted) The Man Who Made Ghosts'n Goblins - GlitterBerri's Game Translations and this post RE3 interview with Mikami he says the same thing Resident Evil Horror / - Shinji Mikami Interview
I suppose it’s plausible that someone else suggested it to them and they said hmm that sounds good but either way I feel like they definitely avoided acknowledging AITD until recently as far as I can tell while being comfortable name dropping sweet home (which, I mean, makes sense when it’s capcom)
This is gonna end with someone trying to convince me to play a survival crafting ranked extraction live service thirps and swearing to me, no, it really is a fun time, to have, with your friends, just good old fashioned goof offs, until I swear off human interaction and play Unreal on a continuous loop in a Himalayan cave until I achieve enlightenment
make sure you come fight golbez with us next week before you hermitify
According to Frederic Raynal (mentioned during his own legal battle to get acknowledged as the creator of AitD and get due royalties) there was some sort of legal tussle between Capcom and Infogrames when RE1 came out so Capcom employees admitting they had, in fact, taken anything from AitD would have been damning evidence (and Capcom eventually did give a bunch of money to Infogrames in exchange of never mentioning all that again).
Tactical Wetwork Extraction thiRPS, TWERPS for short.
