I really couldn’t imagine even KONAMI not knowing II’s the one everyone loves (and I was right)
RPGMaker
They took an early generation PS1 game and made it look like a late generation PS1 game. This is a revelation. How is Konami so much better at this than Square Enix.
at least it’ll get a good translation this time
Wow! A switch release! Squeenix could never!!!
will always mark out for suikoden 1
Steam trailer has a little bit of english text for Suiko 2, which looks different than the original english version. Seems to be super literal, which isn’t good, but considering the original game’s english version was written in, iirc, 10 days, it should still be an improvement.
There’s a bunch of character portraits here
damn
haven’t played it for 20 years and it has been on my list to revisit for ages but i’m honestly not a huge fan of 2? the first one is this super breezy blue skies ~12 hour ultra charming thing and then 2 just kind of felt bloated and overwrought
i was initially very happy to hear about this remaster before i saw that ui anyway
monkey’s claw has to have had the greatest glow-up of 2022
honestly, not enamored with the hd backgrounds, they clash too much with the sprites. The original games already looked perfect
If they add diagonal movement to 1, that’d be great, though
Suik2’s art hasn’t been changed at all!
I also feel Suikoden 1 has probably aged much better than 2, which had really slow pacing and more bloat. The 108 recruitable characters thing is really fun in 1 because it’s such a short game, it’s completely excessive. There’s one recruitable character who just exists to greet you when you enter your castle
3 was my fav because the castle rules, there are duck warriors, and the mysterious main antagonist is a recruitable character from the previous games (oooh)
Did I miss the memo that E3 was actually happening in September? I can’t remember a more active TGS season
They’ve been heavily retouched
I don’t mind things like removing the dithering, but I think the hd art looks plain bad in a way that the original didn’t (especially on a crt or with a good shader setup, but I took a screenshot sans shaders just to confirm that the art is heavily altered)
suikoden 1 is definitely only like 12 hours long if you know what you’re doing, though. It was still breezy, but it was like 22 hours when I first played through it.
S2 is definitely about 50% longer, but no more than that. It’s still extremely breezy by jrpg standards, even back then
