Do you think we’re finally going to see them in this one?

I’m kinda cringing in that last point. I could probably tell myself that I’ll get the value for money if I buy something like a switch pro, but if I have to buy a television again I don’t think I’d be up for that ever again. I’d have to justify the cost of getting a television and then figure out where to put the damn thing and I don’t think I can do that.

That’s the key feature! This thing has to be huge! Virtually unmovable! Hardcore gamers will settle for nothing less. Have you see the ps5? Nintendo can’t compete with that absolute unit

Like 15 minutes ago I looked at my PC and thought “This thing is definitely taking up less space than a PS5, that’s kinda fucked up.”

Shit my Mac Mini is like 1/50th the size and it can

:snood:

why would I ever want a PS5

I still deserve one though

“Smaller than a PS5” is a great metric for PC cases, come to think of it

idk why people complain about that, it’s actually fairly simple to mod it to take up less space

sounds good, just need $100 of 40mm Noctua fans and a copper ingot

The PS5 is surprisingly lightweight for how huge it is, so I’ve found it easy to move around actually. I assume it’s mostly empty space for airflow in there

This is the niche that remains for the Switch Heavy to fill

Must be. PC case manufacturers can make a box where blocking an intake could be a problem but it’s your problem. Sony’s building in headroom for people shoving them in furniture and designed the “collar” to prevent blocking too bad

Console failure rates only got real bad when the thermal demands increased

PS5 both being huge and having no games should be seen as a sign of how far we’ve come as a medium. Used to be you needed two separate boxes for that!

god yeah what games even are there for the ps5? i feel like it came and went and the only thing i know about the ps5 is that it’s hard to get one and there’s a gran turismo on it?

it had the misfortune of shipping like 3 full years before any meaningful exclusives are gonna be developed for it, due to a combination of Sony needing to keep supporting the PS4, and UE5 targets not really being in a hurry to get ahead of chip shortages

like I get the sense they did a cost benefit analysis and decided a few years of rarefied irrelevance wasn’t going to hurt their position too badly

Unreal 3 and Unreal 4 were both a few years behind the launch of the consoles they were targeting, they’re just more up-front about it today (sorry Silicon Knights).

We’re at the point where blockbuster games are too big to be exclusives until the systems are at least 2 years old, have a combined install base of 30-40m. Combine that with the decreasing perceptible returns from every doubling of render performance and they are fine with waiting. They’ve gotten used to the limits of the terrible PS4/Xbox One CPUs and have stripped all simulation out of their games anyway.

Meanwhile, small games don’t really have the blue ocean they would have because the storefront, with all the last-gen titles, is just as crowded as always. Without direct investment like Sony did for the first few years of the PS4 (thanks Adam Boyes), there’s no reason to treat it as anything other than another target.

Microsoft had this right from the beginning: it’s not really about ‘console generations’ anymore, it’s about sliding hardware targets just like iPad updates. Sony insisted it would be a major generation break just like the past and had to eat their words as they slowly revealed that, yes, almost all their internal projects had already decided to be cross-gen years earlier.

I feel like I need to get a PS5 and yet struggle to justify it even to myself. I simply don’t trust current releases to run well on my base model PS4 (there are pre-PS5 PS4 games that barely do) and my desire to own stuff doesn’t play well with Microsoft’s approach
but man when I try and make a list of games I want to play on the thing it is basically Elden Ring and Deathloop with I guess the new God of War theoretically coming this year.

Maybe crypto crashes enough so that I can get a PC at not absurd prices someday.

I have series S now
just like my original model Xbox One I committed to the cheapest option and accept my fate of no longer running new games within a few years as the console slowly depreciates to the point where Youtube crashes on launch.

e: djmax is launching on game pass today though
thats cool
