Really dig that Rollerdrome cel shade style.

The SF6 stages look fantastic, actually like an environment the characters are in. The animation style is much more kinetic than the lackadaisical, oh maybe I’ll punch…now? style of SF5, a huge improvement. The FX are flashy but in a flowing way which so far my eyes feel better about than the old single-frame flash style. The open world exploring looks a bit disastrous, I wish they could just have had that budget for the fighting, I guess this is how they think they’re gonna get the mass market though. Who knows, maybe they’re right. I mean, I always thought it would be cool to have a fighting game world where you explored around and just got into fights with people you found, got quests to do, and so forth. Is that how they’re doing it? If there’s a quest-style mode in SF6, I will definitely have to check it out.

EDIT: On second view, I think the FX fooled my eyes–the animation style does look pretty much SFV-like. Less interested in that, but if the FX aren’t too flashy I suppose I’ll still get it to check out the single-player. At least it looks like they’ll HAVE a single-player this time. : )

EDIT 2: The worry I have about this open world potential quest mode thing is that quite possibly you’ll be having to spend a large proportion of your time navigating around and talking to NPCs, which I don’t think I want so much. Hopefully they would let you skip through a lot of that if you just want to get to the fights.

EDIT 3: I hope the city is gonna be navigable with an arcade stick. : P

wait are you saying they’re turning Street Fighter into Nightshade?

i don’t have anything to say about this other than the title “The Callisto Protocol” has to be the closest a modern AAA game has come to sounding like someone’s overly ambitious but ill-advised, not particularly well conceptualized Wolfenstein 3D/Doom mod from like 2004. that was around the era that it felt like everyone was like “i’m gonna blow this community away” by throwing in some newly novel features in a completely incoherent way. and it always was done in a way that paid no attention to the way those would mix with the original game. back then everything had to have a some sort of half-baked sci-fi plot with a grandiose sounding name to read as “serious” and ambitious i guess.

i don’t like the way sf6 looks, and didn’t expect to really

Not that it necessarily will be this, but generated commentary seems like a clever way to tutorialize past the fighting game barrier of “all I understand is mashing”

Hopefully it defaults to Japanese ^_ ^

I NEED the commentators to say I’m playing like absolute shit, I want every single one of my fuck ups to be received with WHAT WERE THEY THINKING

The studio’s first game is The Callisto Protocol , a survival horror game originally set within the PUBG universe.

uh also wow, i did not see that coming

Yep, that’s what I was gonna say – it’s got that naive energy that fits perfectly with the PLAYER UNKNOWN’S’s story

Love the silly musical roll call of summons at 2:18

ff16 continues to look impossibly whack

Why are they hyping Ifrit? No one has ever used that summon spell ever.

this studio tried to recruit me once or twice and seems like one of the scores of bay area AAA studios where people rotate in and out of, but all somehow came from EA/Viceral

SF6 looks fucking good, what a breath of fresh air

the roaming single player mode looks like a better promise than any arcade mode the series has ever had. the in-game commentary is cringe but it’s not much worse than SFIV’s commentator, I’m sure it’ll be very low volume and/or toggleable in game.

I like the visual style all around–I wasn’t so sure when it was just the two Luke and Ryu models they showed off but the new Shun Di guy looks really cool. I appreciate them tapping into more of a traditional character design mindset because a large portion of SFV’s cast was forgettable and ugly blonde people with terrible costumes. the colors are vibrant and it just looks much nicer on screen and in movement.

I was seriously expecting it to look like ass but no, the animations look way snappier and stretchier than SFV. I appreciate them just showing off parry and armor mechanics front and center. one of the things that’s really hard to tell by the trailer is that pushback and walk speed look more significant in SF6–one of my biggest issues with SFV is that you’re always in each other’s faces after every knowdown, air reset or throw break, they seem to be deliberately addressing that in the new game.

they actually put MOVEMENT and DEFENSE in street fighter again
