would like more context here. i haven’t followed the discourse/development of this game at all.
the game uses a lot of pictures stolen from tumblr aesthetic pixel posts and other artists with one bit styles, the real actual game is recognizing what they traced

I’m close personal friends with a guy who’s been working on a black and white adventure game for many years now and he’s done his share of grousing about all these superficial coincidental similarities he kept noticing between his game and the way, way more high profile horror game. For awhile I thought he was maybe “paranoid” and “sour grapes” but then I saw the horror game added a Select Button lookin’ color palette and thought, at the very least, the universe was playing some kind of cosmic prank on my friend.
Kinda fucked up though not gonna lie, kinda fucked up.

the guy who made world of horrors original art is visibly and noticeably worse than everything he lifted from other people its a little different of a situation. he is trying to disguise what hes doing very poorly by mixing everything together and i suspect if he was confronted about this would deny this is what he is doing

I think swiping is largely acceptable* but it feels very bad when it’s done by someone who’s amassed way, way, way, way, way more money and support than you, and you are 100% certain they were aware of your project from its inception yet have never cited you, and also it’s made even worse when their project is all about, ugh, teenage schoolgirls.
I remember thinking if I ever made a video game I’d like it to be like something you’d see in an fmtownsmarty post except, like, an actual good game. Those games all stink and I don’t trust anyone who tries to convince me otherwise.
Anyway I’m gonna go count the change on my dresser and make another tweet begging for commissions, maybe I can buy my sad, parnaoid friend a drink or something.

this has definitely happened to me multiple times, it sucks.
i was also not meaning to start a whole thing by posting about the game and am pretty apathetic to it as a whole. i just genuinely am not plugged into the discourse to know about this stuff at this point, so it’s nice to know context.
