This is all a set up so that at the end of the game they can spring āBut the catholic church is bad actuallyā on you.
And then in the sequel youāll play as a new character who has to hunt down the previous protagonist because theyāve gone rogue.
wtf i really need to ineterview him for my channel
I swear we literally saw a new Steampunk Rabbit Metroidvania like two months ago
Either that or Iām mentally aging fast
Ok so right now, as far as social vr programs go, the big names on the block for a few years were VRChat and NeosVR.
VRchat isā¦well it was supposed to be a chat program and functions largely as static spaces that are interactable in the space but is still mostly confined to the program, editing stuff and file sharing is a thing that happens outside the software.
Neos is something a lot more like Secondlife, it has a bunch of built it tools, you have an inventory of stuff you can save and share. Worlds are build in neos itself. Interestingly, you could also export this stuff and use it as a 3d modeling and art program. It was weird and cool!
Unfortunately, Neos decided to jump on board the crypto train, destroying it overnight practically. The choice to do this was obviously bad, but theyād done it early enough that it put it right on the border between money laundering investment scam and buying weed off the dark web so I can sort of see the thought process but it was still a bad idea.
The dedicated userbase of tech weirdo furries vanished and was replaced by crypto bros. While itās been limping along for a while, it was functionally dead after that.
There was an internal conflict over this, the dev team wanted to remove crypto and focus on the VR Platform stuff exclusively, and the money guy wanted to keep the con running, despite the collapse ofā¦wellā¦all crypto shit.
There was a legal battle, however since there wasnāt actually a contract signed about any of this, exactly who owned what was ambiguous.
So literally the entire team behind it, including the original guy who codded most of it himself, jumped ship and announced what appears to be the codebase pried up from the name āneosā and is being turned into a legally distinct product called Resonite that Iām pretty intrigued by:
I love VRchat but having more competition in a space is good, and I really donāt see like, Roblox and RecRoom as the same thing since those are basically digital daycares that double as child labor scams.
I will purchase this.
itās crackdown?
andi did an in depth analysis with one of the best charts iāve ever seen
ohh maybe but my first instinct is no matter how āsubversiveā you try to be about it having your protagonist work for the Catholic fucking church in 2023 just strikes me as insufferably tacky, its edgelord shit. I mean i know you agree its just what immediately bothered me. also CMON donāt make me HUNT witches with guns let me BE a witch with a gun!!
i somehow always forget until i rewatch it every couple Halloweāens how much of Evil Dead 2ās runtime is Ash going AAGGHHH WAAUGHH AAAAAA while demonic possessed heads laugh at and bite him and his own severed hand kicks his ass and the first person camera demon throws him screaming a million miles into the woods
truly the greatest ābadassā horror protagonist
the devās polish, catholicism is still a big deal there
still pretty big in America too if my fuckin extended family has anything to say about it
So two new random games came out today that I want to mention.
Seedlings seems to be a fairly basic puzzle platformer made with real photos and video, which isnāt a new trick but at a few points it seems to be rather well executed. Iām gonna include the trailer as thereās a bit 21 seconds in with a stream that IMO just looks very pleasant.
The other is Bud Spencer & Terence Hill - Slaps And Beans 2. Back in 2017 or so I stumbled upon the first game, a game āstarringā a famous pair of Italian actors known for making comedies and spaghettis westerns many decades back. I thought it was neat that a team went through the effort to basically make a scrolling beat 'am up based on I guess a more credible regional Abbott and Costello, and I guess it did good enough to warrant a sequel.
ā¦but the real reason I mention it here is that it has a jai alai minigame and that is delightful off the wall.
āForged In Shadow Torchā has gotta be the dumbest ass videogame name Iāve heard in a while
that was Insert Credit Game of the Year 2021
well⦠at least that means I donāt have to shelve my 5+ year project.
Iām like, the Godot Guy at my work and I had basically every staff member come and ask me about Godot after the initial announcement, and one of the course coordinators said that this would be the last group of first-years that would be taught unity, so it looks like the damage is done, but Iāll believe it when I see it. Iām hopefully though, cos Iāve been yelling that we shouldnāt be teaching closed source tools ever since I arrived so maybe now people will finally listen. idk.
