RAVE RACER BABY

Sort of. Having been close enough a few times a lot of big game publishers will commission market research which points to a rough number of ā€œpotential playersā€ for a given genre and therefore a potential money value on specific genre games and, what do you know, everyone plays fortnight. So if we make a 3rd person casual action game with rougelike elements we will also get X amount of players. These are numbers that feel right and are made from Smart and Important people so nevermind that literally all the youtube comments on the preview video are negative.

A lot of indie game ā€œmarketingā€ flotsam will also do this but they’ll tell you to look at dubious steam sales data, which is based on back-of-the-napkin math from review numbers and user generated tags. These are the same people telling developers to drop everything and make a Vampires-Survivors-Like.

it’s hard to imagine a more soulless video game than this. it feels like a tipping point.

which of course means it will be a surprise success somehow.

That’s why I’ve always treat people who recommend F2P games everywhere as the worst addicts trying to push cheap molly on others in high school.

The narration on this is embarrassing, but I didn’t realize the crux of this game was ā€œwhat if Saber combined World War Z and Snowrunner.ā€ That…could work. Maybe.

this is sorta close to what I was working on at midwinter but instead of zombies it was the Dead By Daylight universe. I was working on the vehicle systems.

I personally believe that if you buy a box it should have a disc or cartridge in it. Why even sell it on store shelves if you aren’t going to do that.

While this is true, the case itself is plastic that takes up retail space, so you can get lucky sometimes and snag a code-in-a-box cheaper than you would just buying it digitally. Ideal? Nah. But at least there’s that.

That said, uh, did Bethesda ever fix that Skyrim port and the input lag? Is the Oblivion port gonna be as busted as the other versions apparently are?

Seems like they’re on a hot streak of putting out pretty lousy remasters of late. Todd, whaddya doin’ over there…

From what I understand kind of but not completely.

They did put out a patch and it did make it better but people still are having issues and the game is still locked at 30FPS

I don’t know, I played World War Z and it didn’t seem like they knew what they were doing when they made that

(skip the first three minutes if you don’t want spoilers for the deep and rich plot of Relink)

okay of all the things they showed off, the most interesting thing is the brief mention of character specializations/masteries. the main balance problem in the base game was that character building was pretty linear in that you made a mad rush to max out damage cap (I’m 100% certain they finished the game and then looked at the numbers and went ā€œoh we fucked upā€ and the solution was to have a hard cap on damage and pretty much my body of evidence is a pre-release video showing a full burst doing more damage than the cap in release) and keep your HP under 40k to get the bonus off the weapon you get from the last base quest. buffs and healing were useless because you were already hitting the damage ceiling with your loadout and most hits from bosses at end games were 1/3 to 1/2 your health, if not an outright one shot. blocking/perfect blocking was useless (except for a few days at launch because blocking wasn’t rate-limited) in comparison to dodging, and they kind of addressed this but it was localized to one boss. you wanted to do two chain bursts instead of full bursts because of the aforementioned cap and the pause between SBAs effectively acted as crowd controlling the boss.

I think they’re using ER and chaos difficulty quests to soft rebalance the game to make more builds and characters viable while also letting sickos continue to play on the knife’s edge and I am pro that thing I just said.

alternatively I’m wrong as hell and I get a bunch of new bosses for 30 bucks, which is also a win
