i’m not familiar with the name but yeah, i don’t think i’d want to publish an article where David Cage’s Detroit: Become Human is lauded as a feminist game either
pretty sure neither article by Ana Valens claims Detroit: Become Human is feminist art, but it does make for a good example re: how specious the claims by this SWERF/TERF org are and serves as a hook for folks who aren’t into this scene to understand the stakes (ie don’t look away because this doesn’t effect you, it will eventually)
really sad how everyone always wants to attack the messenger on this stuff. the lady who writes about erotic games is a pornographer so everything she says is biased and unreliable, let’s “this person” her while she loses her income

I mean it’s…actually outrage inducing to me is the thing. This is actual censorship, it’s definitely another step in removing sexuality and queer people from public life entirely.

the supposed targeting of Detroit seems especially egregious since it’s seemingly on non-sexual grounds and the game is officially classified in Australia (in fact, it has a lower rating from their classification board than it does from the ESRB and PEGI)

I think you could make an argument to approach it like Rosa Menkman’s work imo – there was a really good show at LACMA the last few months called Digital Witness which it took me a while to go see because I think it was hard for them to describe the scope compellingly, but it had a bunch of live Amiga 1000s stitched together showcasing the weird aesthetic state of the art at that time. I think 2xSaI graphics are basically in the same ballpark

ever since fosta/sesta ive been dreading the mass censorship of the internet. ive been taking for granted the ease at which i can access information and i dont want to give it up at all. i have my own issues with the author of that article but my takeaway is if VICE (i know its under new ownership and sucks now but it still counts. if puritans or buy up publications that were normally used to just kinda say whatever its scary too!) is taking down an article for saying terfs censoring videogames is bad we’re fucked
like imagine someone getting one of those millions of jack thompson is a fucking dumbass articles taken down. everyone would have exploded

capcom didn’t even need a law to censor re4 remake for no reason for example, if they start getting forced to do this shit it’s going to be even dumber and worse censorship than it already is
