too bad DS3’s playerbase still is there to go NUH UH, given the sheer raw number of censored names I have seen on player characters.

CoD’s status as war propoganda[/quote]
They are all now way too ridiculous and self-aware to be taken as such by anyone who plays them. I think the only entries that could be considered sincerely jingoistic are WaW, BO1, and MW3. CoD4 and to a lesser extent MW2 were critical of American involvement and featured “ultranationalist” leaders (including an American villain) that duped their nations into war, so there’s no racial enemy.
Ghosts, AW, and BO3 are really not about the military or anything at all besides being CoD, and they own for it.
cod always implies its protagonists are from one of the Great White Nations and that whatever cause theyre behind is ultimately just - not only that but there’s a huge group of people out there (highschoolers/college kids, the people the games are marketed at primarily) that aren’t self aware enough to read the games as being “too over the top” and instead have an idea of warfare that comes from battlefield/call of duty like
I spend days at the highschool as a ta, this, I know for certain
whatever happened to tribes, theres some low gravity fps I can get behind
Tribes died, then came back as a F2P game, then died again and then Hi-Rez used their sweet sweet Smite money to make everything Tribes free, including their F2P title Ascend
Yeah, I wouldn’t call any of the IW CoDs jingoistic considering they were the ones to do the “Oh, you died, here’s a blurb about how war is fucking terrible now”
there’s a new tribes like coming out styled after Starsiege: Tribes too (including terrain deformation!)
Nothing evokes the spirit of Bowie’s “Space Oddity” like pulling an enemy to you with a grappling hook then snapping his neck.
This game looks interesting, I might buy it when it’s $5 like I did with Advanced Warfare, which is the first modern COD I’ve played that actually felt like a game and not like a movie made by Michael Bay’s less talented brother. Still didn’t bother finishing it, though, clearly ran out of ideas before the end.
I remember Tribes! Those were the days…
I played a lot of tribes back in the day. I was really bad at it, but it was basically halo with jet packs and a lot more players before halo existed.
yeah I’m sure kids going to the recruiting offices are making these distinctions.
how does earth have the resources for infinite warfare, and for making big space ships to fly out and blow up above earth.
“That fucking shotgun is straight out of Doom!”
Killers will be killers. I seriously don’t think CoD encourages kids to join the military (or shoot up anyone at all). I think it encourages kids to play more CoD.
Proper propaganda needs (1) a national identity and (2) a national enemy. CoD games are becoming less and less about these.
Black Ops III in multiplayer (i.e. the mode people actually play; I have over 170 hours on the game and still have not passed the second stage of the campaign, and I’m amazed 2016 still has one) features a wonderful variety of characters of unique origin (Russian, Columbian, Brazilian, British, Singaporean, American) and gender parity. Three male, three female, one indeterminate, and one robot. The game encourages you to play all of them, and they all have great design, quips, background lore (should you care), weapons, abilities, and clothes to unlock.
None of them are sexualized or garishly cartoonish.
Like, for fuck’s sake, it’s sensible action figures having airsoft duels in waterparks. It’s completely innocent fun.
that may be true, but the worldview is clearly neocon america
When the COD Mega Bloks catch up with this itll be fuckin siiiiick
New walksim this month
my hype for this game over the past two years makes even more sense now lmao
Yeah I’m into this.
One of these days I’ll keep playing The Witness. Which is not the same as this game.
that’s gotta be the worst God damn name for anything
