The more things change, the more they stay the same

I also legitimately enjoy that Blizzard is still trolling about the Dance Studio

Id play steins;gate golf. There would finally be a game about steins;gate then.

i’ll have to admit that after catching up on that XV event a few days later, I’m even more looking forward to this game multi-franchise experiment.

The last few ones that SQEX did, failed more or less miserably, e.g. Code Age Commanders (gone & forgotten) or the Fabulae Novalis/Cristallis/whatever-FFXIII series (that did seemingly ok-ish in the end). Anyway, I’m planning to catch up with this during the annual, upcoming SQEX-week, let’s see what’s what then.

man that ffxv demothing really feels like garbage to me, i really don’t get it

Yeah, what a wierd demo to put out for what will be most people’s first experience with the game. I wasn’t digging the changes to the battle system from duscae either. I couldn’t really find a flow when fighting the iron golem at the end. It requires some awkward finger movement to change attacks mid-combo now via the d-pad, and they really should have kept defense on a shoulder button. Hopefully the proper release will let you remap controls, but yeah, what a weird little thing. Super sleazy that they ask you if you wanna order the game at the end.

Square-Enix needs to hire more game designers and fewer artists.

This is truly kingdom hearts

it feels so much worse than kingdom hearts, even

i’m legit unsure how this could be possible, must try this demo now

The combat feels really bad for sure. There’s absolutely no friction or weight to any of it, and the dodge mechanic should just be tossed at this point. This is weird to me considering Type-0’s combat was kinda alright, so I’m not sure why they can’t quite pull it together.

If they were to scrap their entire system for something like DMC 3’s combat, I would be alright with that. Regardless, the appeal of driving around in a jaguar convertible and picking fights with dinosaurs is so insane and stupid that i might just give the game a chance despite all that’s wrong with it.

yeah it really seemed to me like lightning returns and type 0 were dry runs for the kind of in-principle-dumb-but-maybe-actually-OK-with-great-effort action combat they’ve been trying to do since kingdom hearts, but hearing that they’ve backpedaled and shit it up at the last minute isn’t exactly surprising

I mentally group last story in with the rest of these too, though it’s equally point-missing – almost-OK from a tactile perspective but there’s no real interesting challenge there, just kludgy abstractions.

mainline SMTs still get me excited

Final Fantasy is basically a tribute act at this point anyway. If it were up to me, they’d bet the farm on Kawazu.

I was expecting to shell out for p5 on the strength of its trailers but now that I’m playing nocturne for the first time I think I’m gonna be sated

the lil kh tutorial thing is pretty irrelevant and won’t even be in the final game. the boss at the end itself did not feel like kh at all really and kind of owned.

i actually really like that you have to commit to defense both by having the shield equipped (making it your only offensive tool at the time) and then hot-swapping to it DMC4 style. staggering the boss with the Just-Defend/parry thing feels super good to do especially because of that commitment. there’s a secret fuuma shuriken that ruled but didn’t really seem to have a downside so that was strange. that you can either hold the button or press buttons in sequence to attack/dodge suggests some interesting potential for the game offering situations that require careful commitment of action, again.

having guard be on shoulder could honestly only make the game feel mushier and more passive. don’t agree at all.

i’d like to see more evidence of the utility of heavier weapons vs lighter ones, but there weren’t really opportunities for that in this demo.

granted i didn’t come into the thing ready to harsh it and also i spent like two hours just beating and reviving the boss so i could actually feel things out so i can see how yall could fail to have the correct opinion

So some concept art for God of War 4 leaked and it might be taking place in Norse Mythology this time:
