at least we got this out of it
so at least virulent racism among nerd sects has prevented them from uniting and destroying us all.
Since weâre around dumb controversies, let me just say that I am against Blizzard getting rid of Tracerâs butt pose in Overwatch
The problem here isnât the pose, but rather that her butt is too nice and clearly, they must remodel her butt, why is she even wearing something skin tight anyway
(They actually have pretty tight logic in their agreement since they arenât getting rid of Widowmakerâs butt pose since it fits the character and why the hell do people care about this pose you see for 5 seconds at the end of a match but here we are.
Man, I hope they didnât get rid of the animation bug where Widowmakerâs butt grows on scoping)
respect her struggle
nintendo of america terminated alison rappâs employment
so, fuck
This is shit and especially more shit that any company that hires her is going to get harassed to hell because gamers hate women.
nintendo sucks. people need to stop putting the fucking mickey mouse club on a pedestal. gators are the problem, but itâs not that much smaller of a problem that in 2016 a company who mostly has to brand themselves adequately to sell mascots to grade schoolers winds up the focus of this horseshit.
somehow one of the most institutionally conservative major companies I can think of is also expected to be deftly and avowedly socially progressive. they are gonna shit the bed on stuff like this, and they may or may not offer some meaningless apology later.
there are more progressive places to work on videogames but possibly not if your primary professional interest is being able to talk about anime characters from 15 years ago and Iâm actually not sure itâs reasonable to have it both ways?
the amount of harassment these women put up with is still just unreal to me
wait, what was she fired for? I will admit I have not followed this story too closely, because why would I, but presumably they had to give some sort of reason beyond âto appease our angry fansâ
Something about defending lolicon foulprint, which is just even more confusing*
*based on the most cursory Googling ever
from what i remember her graduate paper in college was about how itâs not fair to say that the lolicon industry is pedophilic because itâs japanese and we canât project our western views on a foreign culture
all sides of the situation make me uncomfortable for different reasons
OK, at that point Iâm not hiring her either
I tend to semi-strongly identify with the houellebecq âliberalism eats itselfâ pov though so ymmv
Yeah and a 20 year old college studentâs views of that stuff are gonna be a whole lot different than a 25 year olds.
wait, so in the end she was fired for agreeing with the stance of the people who wanted her fired.
oh, internet
Itâs easy to understand once you realize that what was important wasnât her views, but that they knew they could use her views against her. And that sheâs a her.
whoops accidentally nuked my post
anyway paper or not the situation is still pretty messed up but also Iâm kind of bummed out that Iâm not surprised at nintendoâs reaction
i wanna just expand on how i feel a little bit:
i just think itâs important to point out that she has some sketchy views. i am 100% against what gg is doing to her when itâs viewed pulled back (bunch of boys trying to ruin a womanâs life because they didnât get what they want) and i am not comfortable at all that this information came up through digging through her past trying to smear campaign her
but after learning about it i canât ignore the fact that it has come up that she said some very very not cool stuff
in order of severity: 1 ---- 2 ---- 3 (please make sure you check the news article she is linking to)
yes those posts were made years ago but itâs very very easy to be like âhey i regret that stuff i wrote in the past and it was fucked up and i am wiser now and that does not reflect who i currently amâ but she has not done that so far as i am aware
i wanna make it very clear that i absolutely abhor gg and i am not siding with them at all, but at the same time i canât feel comfortable throwing my support behind someone who has outspokenly campaigned for things that lead to or come from child sexual abuse.
sry if this is a weird/heavy post to make in the news thread but i thought it was important to share where i was coming from a little better
