this is a really good looking doujinvaniasouls though I’m not familiar with the previous entries
I just bought it and played 15 minutes. it’s nice! a little too obviously souls-inspired and a little too straightforward, but nice. Not sure I’d recommend it yet.
This looks pretty cool to me, I like the sprites…I guess I like everything about the look, this game looks real good. What’s the Souls connection? Just seems like an action platformer from the video clip? Some kind of death risk/reward thing going on? Part 4 in a series, earlier ones seem even more indebted to Cave Story at least visually. I’m into it.
the heaviness of the mechanics, as well as the presentation of the area transitions and bossfights, is very soulsian
The level design is too straightforward though. First half hour was a bit of a lark. I know toups and broco liked Elliot quest a year or so ago and this is similar enough but it really falls down on mystery and scope.
Still, very very nice aesthetically for a doujin game. And it works fine in wine if anyone is curious and my having played a windows game didn’t already imply that!
Okay, neat. You happen to notice any video (specifically looking for native res output) options in the game itself?
negative. I think it just does the same nearest neighbor fullscreen scaling of 480p or whatever as game maker. which looks pretty good generally. I know the hyper light drifter guy took a silly amount of flak for not making native 1080p assets or whatever when it wouldn’t make any sense.
Okay it’s kind of dumb to imply that Myst games will finally make you think in a videogame again. But: I am stooper excited for this.
Also, Ninja Souls: looks kind of pretty good?
Lest we forget, looks real promising.

I watched the Giant Bomb quick look for Ultimate Chicken Horse the other day and it looks like a hilarious and quality game. Gonna wait on the online play to not be in beta and probably throw some cash at it.

Hey, Overwtach comes out May 24th and there will be an open beta. For those of you who don’t know, that’s three weeks after Battleborn. I would just like to take this space to extend my condolences to the folks at Gearbox, who don’t deserve this, and Randy Pitchford, who does deserve this.
