Let’s just say it’s probably a game that gives Ian Bogost arousal
Who is Ian Bogost?
He’s the guy who got a job being a video games academic by insisting loudly and constantly that he is one
Okay, I can believe that.
Note that there is also a prototype available.
The timing on this is interesting, because I just this week happened to resume playing Sunless Sea AND Fallen London, and the sunless sequel (Sunless Skies) entered early access yesterday, which I already purchased. (It’s my understanding that Alexis wasn’t involved with this game much at all, other than the worldbuilding that Sunless Skies is based around.) I like the evocative flavor, but I’m not sure how to feel about the card-based gameplay:
Did you wind up getting the Zubmariner DLC? I’ve been sitting on a New Game+ character who has a pretty stacked starting position but I’m afraid that if I add the DLC it’ll make me start over from scratch or something like that.
Binding of Isaac is a different genre so the comparison is hardly fair. I take the floaty feel of Binding as being a function of the customizable player abilities as opposed to “the devs are bad at gamefeel”. The End is Nigh feeling about as good as Meatboy is a more relevant example (and if you want to attribute that to McMillen’s new partner, that choice of partner speaks well of McMillen regardless).
I can confirm that Zubmariner DLC does not adversely impact your current playthrough. You have to enable zubmersion at a particular port for most of those game features to impact you. I’m still not in a position with my current captain to get over there yet, though. Once you do, it should convert your current ship into a zubmarine, along with future captains in this dynasty.
Sunless Skies is… different. Obviously Early Access means we shouldn’t hold it to the same standard, yet, but I’m wondering how much of my ambivalence is actually Alexis’s absence (I didn’t know he wasn’t on board until earlier today), and how much is just the different emphasis that Sunless Skies places. I haven’t put nearly enough time into it yet, but the sense I’m getting is one more of political and metaphysical strife, to a much greater degree than in Sunless Sea.
What does this mean?
Whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOA whoa whoa.
/u/Gremlins75 built himself a nice little baby Astro City out of MDF.
That Cultist Simulator kickstarter achieved funding, it looks like!
I’m kinda stoked about this actually
Nightmare Creatures is some kind of weird Porto-Souls so this should be interesting. I always got the name confused with Darkstalkers when I was a kid for some reason
are remasters of 6-7/10 games from the 90s going to be the new thing
It seems to be the thing already.
Waiting for Soul Reveaver ReMastered.
Post-millenial dread Urban Chaos sequel please.
I am utterly willing to be pandered to in this manner.
Crusader: No Remorse with real controls please
