My favorite drink is water with no ice and my favorite game is Street Fighter

Yeah! Just put the GGPO code right in the rom! What the hell Capcom cheap and lazy devs

Local multiplayer works with them but yeah, would be fun if you could actually challenge people to them right there in the Battle Hub.

On another note, developer interview with director Takayuki Nakayama

Gonna go full chat bot and repeat what I saw in someone else’s youtube video that summarised the article and not to any fact checking myself on it:

  • Some people were apparently anticipating that they would reset the online rankings in the near future due to how easily many people are reaching the top Master rank currently. Capcom however that they have no such reset planned.
  • They are however planning on adding special modes that will be exclusive to master rank players but not many details on what exactly this may be. Mention special leagues and even betting on matches? Curious how the betting will work especially for me in Sweden where current laws prevent me from betting even on Sajam’s Will it kill?-streams with those fake free channel points Twitch gives you for just watching a streamer.
  • Besides bugs and fixes to other unintended things they are aiming to only doing balance updates once a year with the first happening after Capcom cup finishes in February.
  • Capcom still feel like the playerbase are still playing catch-up to their own internal team of players and testers. Players still have a lot of tech left to discover so they’re not too worried that people are still trying to figure out how to deal with characters like Honda and JP. In fact, with those characters specifically their overall win rate online has been steadily dropping.
  • Usage of Modern controls has been steadily increasing overall.

this is the only thing that would possibly get me to open the battle hub ever again

I play with the commentators and late last night after midnight as I was starting a match against a Ryu online I swear I heard Vicious say something like “And as we all know today is Ryu’s birthday, happy birthday Ryu!”. Guess I wasn’t crazy!

I can understand how they get repetitive for some but I still like the novelty of them screaming in my ear “They’re using the Super on wakeup now? What were they thinking??”, enthusiastically shouting “We’re getting Third Strike up in here!” when Ken uses his level 2 and how many of the rounds end in
“That was an intense round, what did you think of that?” (Hikaru Takahashi says a whole lot of stuff in Japanese)
“You got that right!”

yeah the commentary rules. i have extremely poor match awareness, so them explicitly telling me when either player has level 3 stocked is a boon.

Yeah, Battle Hub is pretty fun to just look at various creations in between waiting for matches. I also do like to occasionally lab in training mode on the Extreme Battle cabinets since you so rarely get challenged on one of those and when you do you play a completely bullshit mode where the other person will leave after like 2 games. Perfect just to break from combo practice or whatever for a bit.

Finished World Tour mode a while back. It’s like, alright? Wonder if they’ll ever continue updating it besides adding the DLC characters as Masters to learn from. Kind of weird how little SiRN is a factor in it considering how much they come up in the Arcade stories. Don’t think those Copy Fighter robots are even mentioned by anyone after you meet them?

Realised only recently though that I’m pretty sure not a soul mentioned any events concerning SF3? Maybe not a huge surprise considering how not a single original character from there is present but still a bit disappointed that nobody even mentioned the Illuminati or anything considering how much SF5’s story mode events get talked about.

You know what was real cool though? During the ending credits they show flashback photos of you training with all SF6 characters you met throughout the story and in them your Avatar is wearing the clothing you were wearing at the time.

Rashid seems interesting. I’ve only played against him a few times, but he seems pretty tricky to deal with. His moves take him in odd aerial trajectories or leave him spaced too far to punish. His voice actor has some good line reads for when he gets hit.

I’ve been working my way through gold as Jamie and now in gold 5. I’m getting platinum players in the mix and it feels like a new plateau. The execution level is generally much better than mine. I’m giving up big combos and not getting much back with any openings I can get, which are becoming harder to come by.

My new target is to use drive rush to extend my combos and using light attacks more. I rely on his heavy punch a lot and struggle to get in on people if they sit tight, leading to me getting countered.

The climb is fun though. It’s heartening to see I’ve made clear improvement, even if it can be stressful losing and figuring out what needs to change.

I had a funny thought playing Alpha 2 in the Battle Hub as Guy - like what if Kimberly was named Girl

Boy, I have been playing a bunch of this game! I finally made it to Silver and am feeling more confident and comfortable with coming up with a plan instead of panic-mashing in response to everything. Now I think the important thing for me to concentrate on is getting better at maximizing my damage and managing my resources better.

My partner is playing in the online Capcom tournament at the end of the month and I may join just for fun. It’s free anyway

Who’s excited for EVO!? We were gonna try and go for a quick getaway but all the arena tickets were sold out already. I can’t believe there are enough nerds to fill up that stadium or whatever. It’s dumb, but I want old man J. Babyface Wong to win. Will also be rooting for Idom, MenaRD, and 801strider. The only sport where I have some USA pride. Mostly tho, I just hate that Japan wins allllll the time

Yeah I need to play more – I got distracted at some point. I was like inches away from gold.

I do have a problem with being mediocre at things and this was helping me work through that a bit. I’m fine with being bad at things – that’s easy. However when I put in effort and I’m like good enough to see how bad I am, that’s when it gets tough for me to want to continue.

When I try really hard my ego always comes along for the ride. It would be nice to be able to separate that a bit better.

Maybe I’ll do the Capcom tournament too. I haven’t done one in a few weeks. I’m still not sure how my Manon would fare even though I guess I main her now.

I fought MenaRD last night. He was playing Dhalsim. I did not beat him. I won one round. I didn’t get perfected. I think I was tipsy but that was less of a liability than how frazzled my nerves have been lately. I’d say I did great, considering.

I reached Diamond 4 a few days ago. Then I fell back down to Diamond 2. Because I play too much and I do it when I don’t feel well, because competitive action games distract me from not feeling well. But then I get bummed when I lose! It’s complicated. I’ll get to Master eventually, would probably be there already if I was actually sensible, but I’M NOT. It’s hard to find casual matches now! I wish people were queueing for them!! But ranked is fun because I like playing random folks in rapid succession. Even though some of them play so dumb I want to stab them*. It’s pretty cool how there’s nearly zero downtime in this game.

Gonna try and watch as much Evo as I can. For Street Fighter at least. I never got too into watching Strive and Tekken is hit and miss with me. I’ll probably do a group chat in the Beautiful Game Discord for at least Grand Finals if anyone wants to hang.

I don’t know who I am rooting for. I know I am rooting against Modern controls. I would not be surprised if a good number of Japanese Modern players show up and just blow up all the Americans who don’t know how to deal with that shit. I know whenever I’ve played higher ranked Modern players it’s a fucking different game and uh I dunno if it’s a game I like. I do think people should use Modern controls! I think it’s nice that they’re in there! If you are reading this and you use Modern: I salute you! I sure hate having to adjust to one button SRKs and supers though! Just let me jump sometimes, okay, the game is more fun when I can jump at least one fucking time per round.

I do think fighting games have been good for me on the whole, like yeah I don’t study much or try more than is needed but I definitely do it more than I ever did before. I am very irritated that I can’t train against Rashid without buying him; I cannot afford the fuckin’ season pass and while I do have a bunch of rental tickets they don’t do me much good, I need to be able to load that mother up every time someone does something that ticks me off, that rental timer ticking down just gives me anxiety, fuck I hate DLC fighters, less irritating here than in other games though. Also who knows I bet if I owned him I’d just click TRAIN AGAINST THIS CHARACTER and forget what I lost to as soon as it loads, my short term memory has gotten really damn bad, maybe I should start taking notes . . . . . .

Game is great, love Street Fighter 6, everyone should play it.

*If you don’t understand this feeling you haven’t seen the things I’ve seen, sister. I’ll show you some replays. I’ll show you all the horrible fullscreen teabagging JPs and Blankas I’ve beaten. I’ll show you all the Kimberlys and Jamies who do nothing but walk themselves into the corner. DON’T DO THAT IT’S A BAD IDEA HAVEN’T YOU SEEN THAT MAJINOBAMA VIDEO

i only play casual matches (or battle hub), but i’m mentally ill so I get extremely angry at them too and I can’t control it, so I have to uninstall the game for weeks at a time, which then makes me worse, which widens the gap between my knowledge and my skill, which makes me more angry, which makes me worse, which

I take personal offense at some of the shit I see and maybe that’s not healthy but whatever, I got a little Krabappel in me, so fuckin’ what, at least I’m not getting all riled up over young adult fiction or something okay, this is fuckin’ combat, this shit matters

How does one enter a tournament? I’m only missing those and the 600 likes achievements.

Excited for Evo! I’d actually love for the discourse on Modern to be pushed by a big mix of approaches at the tournament. I’m wondering if we’ll see a major rebalance eventually for supers in particular since ‘one button’ supers seem to be the major sway. I want that Modern v Classic grand final more than ever. Also interested in the Tekken 7 showing though it feels like I’m one of the 3 people on SB who likes Tekken.

I’m progressing very slowly and am nearly out of iron with Jamie. The slowness is due to hand issues and not being able to play for more than an hour or two before having to take a break for a few days but at least I can play. Got a new hitbox that I’m hoping will make things easier in the longterm. Doing some weights training soon to help build stamina so hopefully I can be on playing more.

I’m pretty obsessed with 6 in a way I haven’t been for a fighting game since Melee broke my hands, and 2013 before that. I love watching it and the music is in my playlist rotation. Jamie has the best theme and the change at 2:00 feels like it wins me matches for how fired up it gets me to perform. The low health music at 2:31 often helps me refocus as well.

I just want to see the world burn so let a Japanese player win with Modern controls

Which Capcom tournament is coming up? Is that the pro tour?

My worst fear in ranked is a modern Luke. When his face pops up I think game over for me. Modern Zangief can be scary too, instant grabs after a blocked jab are tough to deal with.

I reached platinum yesterday as Jamie after beating a zangief, managing to get two perfects in the first match of the set. I’m trying to be realistic that I probably won’t be there for long since there’s demotion, but I feel like I broke through a plateau.

I’ve never properly played a fighting game until this year and I’ve enjoyed the feeling of learning something and getting better at it. Having little breakthroughs is great, I’ve managed to start incorporating Jamie’s level 1 target combo and it feels like the game has opened up a bit more.
