I hope that means Chappie is even better.
d9 > chappie > elysium, pretty clearly imo
imagine if you could have made out a single detail of it tho
imagine that
imagine if your understanding of its ebb and flow wasnât based on âwell I guess I know the basic mechanics of human bodies so I more or less see how these frames have to follow from one anotherâ
what if you could have seen it
imagine this world
where the action wasnât just a few cool frames flitting for a microsecond between the boughs of noise
I mean there is nothing more beautiful to me than

stupid special forces beard bonner
ranger panties bonner
roboskellington bonner
cinderblocks bonner
ridiculous sword held by a man with a roboskellington used for bbq bonner
but I probably only noticed it in the theater because of promo shots featuring this shit
come on
it is the best designed/worst constructed movie of my lifetime
NOW IMAGINE IF THEY HAD CUT 75% OF THE DIALOG
At the end I turned to my movie buddy and said Iâd watch it again immediately if it didnât have a narrative.
Yeah his designs keep getting better and his movies keep getting worse? At some point theyâre going to have to demote him to art designer/CGI supervisor and let someone else direct the damn things.
Wait, Cuba isnât aboard the Chappie hype train? What the hecm
never watched chappie, how irritating is sharlto copley in that one
Chappie is way way better than I was led to believe, itâs not district 9 but itâs totally decent
I loved Chappie for Die Antwoord.
Also the part where Chappie networks a bunch of PS4s to build a super computer.
What no, Chappie is awesome. But I think D9 is better, yes.
Well, yâknow, maybe not. I havenât seen D9 since release, which was a while ago now, maybe Iâd think differently if I saw them back to back.

I spent a lot of time wondering why an Apache would be named âDenaliâ
The only interesting thing about it is how it seems to glance of recreating the outsiderness of the titular seven from the Source Material by making the survivors all non-white. I say âglances off ofâ because it only touches on race in jokes and genial-racist-patter-what-teambuilds despite 4 of the 7 being persons of color. Racism toward Denzel is suggested in his introduction then never brought up again. Itâs a very casually multicultural average period action movie.
At the end the survivors literally ride away from town the moment the last Bad Guy is dead as the townspeople say their thanks. Not even a second of reflection on anything at all. Thereâs a tacked-on voiceover from Female Lead that seems like an awfully late addition since itâs spoken over an obviously CGI recreation of the valley they fought over. She says oh how wonderful these men were. They were⊠magnificent.
Sheâs very Frontier Dressed Down but still gets a costume change for every major story beat. I liked her Sharpshooter Outfit come battle time. Looks like maybe she integrates Dead Husbandâs long underoos? Scandalous.
Byung-hun Lee owns but duh.
Iâm not sure why Red Harvest (el-oh-el?(that one was Pizzolatoâs idea wasnât it?!)) the Comanche cares so much about defending white peopleâs land rights from other white people but OK, whatever, never mind.
I thought the movie was real dumb. Chris Prattâs Wild Ride at the end was the most forced possible way of giving him his heroic death, the movie seemed to be saying absolutely nothing with its inclusion/survival of POCs but in this way that made you puzzle over what it might be saying (answer: nothing), the Tough Lady Who Wasnât did nothing except end up a damsel, most of the action took place over a flat field so there was no interaction with geography (which is what makes mook-mowing worthwhile), and what in the fuck was the deal with the Comanche. What even was his deal.
Wait, did I not warn you guys about the movie two weeks ago
whoops
All those white people and they only make a point of him stabbing the other Injun.
âŠso he can tell him off for siding with the wrong set of white people?!
I bet that old Apache got paid pretty good
