I donāt know where to start with talking about this movie
I guess Iāl go from this point: anytime the movie is in pure action scene mode and pretty things are happening, the movie is pretty good (spoilers: the harvester queen chase at the end is a pretty fun little set piece with a good sense of scale; the raid on the harvester queen ship with the ensuing air battle has that all-out feeling that was lacking in the fighter battle in TFA)
Every time they stop to talk and explain the plot and what the hell is going on, the movie is pretty bad
The worst part is that the plot is essentially a set up for more ID movies (the short version is the aliens are harvesting planets and weāre the one planet that didnāt roll over and die and the last survivor of some super advanced other alien race (letās call this sphere of knowledge, oh I donāt know, The Traveler) is trying to recruit us to take the fight to them after we fend off harvesting again)
There are a lot of dumb and silly callbacks to the original and Iām pretty sure Jeff Goldblum just wasnāt giving a shit for every scene heās in and some even dumber science (you remember all the bitching about how all those ships would fuck with the tides? The ship in this movie is 3,000 miles wide. At least they pay that off with a neat gravity destruction sequence.). And for some reason, Brent Spinerās character is either gay or in the greatest bromance of all time, which is nice that they just throw it in there and itās no big deal but at the same time, itās just kinda thrown in there.
In conclusion, this movie made my brain physically hurt without actually giving me a headache. I give it a

People have been making Punishment Park comparisons for Carnage Park, which I suspect are completely off-base outside of the title, but itās as good of an excuse as any to remember how good Punishment Park is.

Holy shit, I knew he was an asshole but the lifelong unrepentant anti semitism was new to me. What a heel.
I tend to read Roald Dahl with the same voyeuristic glee of reading a virulent misanthropic racist that I apply to HP Lovecraft, though HPL was both less racist (! Yeah I know comparing levels of racism at this level is ridiculous but he was a little less disgusting than Dahl) and a better writer.
not really a hate. Dahlās an ok writer for the midcentury but not really great in any way.
Give me the absurd unevenness of HPL any day. Dude ranged from the worst doggerel to some of the most striking sentences, often in the same story.

After reading about this a bit in the paper Friday, I have to ask: does it actually turn into the weird clips4sale.com documentary that I think it does or is the guy funding these obviously fetishistic videos just off
Iām not going to judge the manās fetish (if it indeed is, as my suspicions lead me to believe; the article never outright states the videos are of that nature but the included photo leaves very little to the imagination), but the level of paranoia and persecution the article implies doesnāt paint a picture of a normal, well-adjusted individual.
While that sounds like a great movie in of itself, I still want a crazy clips4sale documentary
