im usually repulsed by men but the hypermasculinity of shit like road house and john woo and michael mann is endlessly fascinating and good
they revel in the homosexuality of peak masculinity while keeping the movies out of the LGBTQ category in movie stores, it seems like a delicate balance
a better tomorrow rules because it’s both ultra gay and an incredibly positive depiction of masculinity
All this Mann talk and no love for The Keep?
No, not really, sorry. lol. It’s a neat idea though, nazis getting killed by a satan.
The Keep is cool conceptually but it got butchered and it shows
my next watches will be dance of reality (which ive seen but i lost my reaction screencaps of) and cats
gotta download a cook a thief his wife and her lover oh oh and maybe ZOO
powell and pressburger forever
Road house is incredible as an exploration of the swayze psyche. The soft focus scenes of patrick doing tai chi in front of a barn while a beardy farmer looks on from a distance with an expression of both lust and confusion. The greatest line in film, “pain don’t hurt”, The sudden swerve to disturbing violence in the finale… Its so good
This is actually the best quote from Road House.
the character of Dalton as depicted in road house is the ideal man
“I used to fuck guys like you in prison” as a combat taunt always came across as being totally incoherent to me until I got into a fight and the other guy yelled “Shut up or I’ll suck your dick!!”
after seeing road house i understood what jon blow was going for with his tai chi in the park, but unfortunately he missed the muscle dude that everyone loves part of the message
I think about Swayze saying “pain don’t hurt” in a way that can only be described as a pickup line every single day
i have heard pain dont hurt as a pickup line more than once
Roadhouse is a helpful context clue to be able to better understand how David Lynch was able to be like a relatively mainstream-ish director in the 80s
The 80s really was the golden age of goofy incredible action movies huh
a decade that gave us over the top
