The sub also uses country road, tho the girls sing it. Not sure if they dubbed John Denver in there or something haha. Made me really into that song for a bit, love that movie

The original japanese version uses the Olivia Newton John version at the start if I remember right. Also I think the dub had to change the context of the version the girls are writing from a translation into japanese into some other adaptation

When I was teaching Middle School English here they said they were gonna sing Country Road and I went “Yeah sure” and quickly realized I did not know the song at all.

Ah I am so glad this is on YouTube and I can watch. Such a great film. The part where they’re moving and they have to choose what street address they use and he goes “maybe it’ll be a new image for us” made me laugh. When I saw him in a helmet i was waiting to see what kinda bike he rode. I wasn’t expecting a bmw. There’s one scene where the cameraman is riding along and I’m imagining the whole ride

Was craving some kitsch today, so I went with “The Heartbreak Agency”, a german romcom from 2024(iirc), which plays it so safe that it wouldn’t be noteworthy — if it wasn’t for Anyone but you, which was SO boring that the german romcom won by a mile.
