theatrical cut of fellowship is the one that’s good of any of these. it annoying that the extended cuts are the default cuts that exist out there. a lotr movie came out every year I was at the alternative highschool so I enjoy them for the nostalgia anchor but not too much else.

RotK’s 6 endings that take an hour are worth the 12 hour extended edition price tag

ya this has basically been my opinion as well. fellowship is cool bc it still has those weird peter jackson raimi-esque horror movie vibes from time to time, but the others … don’t?

i do understand the irony in this as a person who is totally obsessed with like interminable star wars lore dump dialogue. i get that it is purely just like random chance that determines which version of this nonsense appeals to any given nerd out there. i think that’s actually why i still find it kind of compelling despite having basically concluded that it’s “not for me” decades ago

think my big beef with Fellowship was how much from the book got cut, the extended versions greatly sate my needs. so many extraneous scenes where I can “that’s Chappie” and no one misses anything. my wife keeps saying, what about this such-and-such & then a character says the same or it cuts to a scene specifically about Súchen Sûch

CGI in Two Towers not quite as good, too much Gollum. but I spied some miniature SFX in Isengard…!

the contrast and minimal colouring in the shots just looks great, I much appreciate it after Elden Ring’s subtle mise-en-scenes

Two Towers has the Dead Marches for its Frighteners scene, am guessing the Army of the Dead will do the same for Return. were they only in the extended?

last LotR post for this week: best part of the movies is watching Ian McKellen & Christopher Lee precisely enunciating Tolkien’s silly made-up words

actually something I think about a lot is in two towers they go to the horse viking king guy and it’s just normal movie bullshit, in the book there’s this whole great dick waving contest about not wanting to hand over their weapons, how amazing their weapons are etc. they always cut out the mythic sociopathy heroicisms like that stuff from things and try to make the characters more like normal people. wrong

personal shopper was way more zeroed in on my horniness than I expected. like incredibly loose who cares about logic we’re going off feelings here fanfiction type shit. I was not expecting that AT ALL. what a movie! it’s nuts that the demonlover guy made something actually erotic

I have never watched any of the Lord of the Rings movies mainly because all of them are so long, so the extended cuts always sounded more like a threat than anything else.

The Drafthouse does a thing where you pay some exorbitant fee and have breakfast, lunch, and dinner as you spend all day watching the Extended Editions back to back to back, with intermissions.

I guess if you’re really into them! I guess!! Couldn’t be me!!

It me. I’d do that.

This is apparently the menu from The Before Times, when they held this thing right on the cusp of the pandemic.

$205. No idea if they still do this.

There has to be something wrong with me because I went from thinking “God what a waste of an entire day that would be” to

thinking “You know, I could swing that. That’s not too bad for the experience.”

I totally played hooky from school on Trilogy Tuesday and went to theater where they showed the first 2 extended editions before the newly released RotK, it absolutely ruled. No bespoke menu though, we just brought Subway sandwiches and shit

I really enjoyed Asuran and this is a good reminder to watch Vada Chennai. Gorgeous camerawork paired with impactful choreography and righteous storytelling.
