I would absolutely watch this but I find bizarre leftfield nationalism incredibly amusing in a modern context
“did I just watch propaganda against a particular kind of white people??” is possibly my favorite state of confusion

Divorce imo
Remember how Kingsmen ends with a literal princess saying “Hello Kings Man, because you saved the world you can now fuck me in the ass as a reward.” Austin Powers was Andrea Dworkin next to this shit
what do you expect from a Mark Millar comic book adaptation
kingsman is some of the most vile reactionary right wing shit ever produced
and yet its still not even 50% as awful as the anti-abortion screeds mark millar weaves through his comics.
oh, i recall. i think it’s for the “can you believe this shit” angle as much as anything
i still feel out of my gourd watching any matthew vaughan movie. like every swerve is in poor taste
if i could say no at the redbox eight years ago i would!
lol he hasnt directed a single decent movie good for him
I had to look this guy up and boy, that’s a bunch of shitty movies I hate
Except Layer Cake which I remember being a fun crime picture without any assfucking princess rewards. That was his first so probably had the least control so it makes sense it’d be his best relatively speaking
Layer cake has the worst duran duran needle drop of all time in a movie. Not only is it an awful song it made me roll my eyes
OH YEAH THEY FUCKING GET CRACKED IN THE HEAD WITH A TEAPOT TO ORIDINARY WORLD I HAD NO IDEA WHICH ASSHOLE YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT TIL THAT
But it has Daniel Craig being cute and smart and physically unintimidating, that’s got to count for something
Just go watch lara croft tomb raider
btw my partner is great! just occasionally inscrutable taste
jeez louise that goes without saying.
“remember when austin powers says ‘consent is sexy, baby!’”
now she’s singing “give it up” by kc and the sunshine band
watching miami vice… best movie or best movie
i watched it as a kid and didn’t retain much but a shitty friend of mine once described Fever Ray’s ‘Triangle Walks’ as “very Miami Vice” so between that and you and parker i’ve MEANT to try again
watching the extended cuts of LoTR, one a week. I’ve never seen them (I fell asleep during Fellowship when it came out and didn’t care to rewatch or continue). the CGI is still extraordinary, that looks fake that looks rad as shit.
shocked at how much Middle-earth crap I can remember. manually fixing the spelling & capitalisations & diacritics in the subs. Two Towers tonight+tomorrow
i’ve seen all three of the original movies once they never left a very deep impression on me. i have considered doing this marathon of extended cuts from time to time, but i am afraid i would get really bored. i just remember a lot of like interminable loredump dialogue scenes, especially in the second 2 films, and i feel like the extended editions would only add more to that. i’m kind of impressed that they exist but find something just like incredibly alienating about the entire franchise
I read the books and watched those editions recently, and the best one is by far Fellowship. The extended edition is superbly paced. It doesn’t get better, and, tbh, I don’t think the other two films are that great. I do really like all that the Return of the King extended edition adds to Frodo and Sam’s story, it’s really good. I felt the same way about the movies that I did about the books; RotK is a lot of battle spectacle, and Two Towers is a bit plodding, Fellowship is wonderful.
I’d guess RotK and Two Towers cinematic cuts are better than the extended edition, but I haven’t watched those versions recently to compare.
iirc this is viggo mortensen’s take as well
