Mighty News Thread Number 9: No Silksong in Mudville

I got to ruin so many takes of Jenn recording voice lines for videoball by coming into the room and screaming, you’re all welcome

I think this is funny cuz every time he comes up here at least ten of us ‘admit’ exactly this, embarrassment free (not a dig it just does happen every time!!)

I would have never met any of you amazing people if not for the Tim to IC to SB pipeline. Still no idea how I got on that path in the first place but Tim made me stay on it

tim always seemed like an odd guy to me but i am grateful for the experiences of hanging out with him occasionally during that time all those years ago. he got me into a GDC (i think the same one where i met up some SB folks for the first time), i jammed with his large prime numbers band for exactly one session, got to go on little excursions in SF, one time we both saw a Boris show. he would tell me stories like how he acquired Shinji Mikami’s fancy expensive Diesel jeans and how we were gonna try to make some interview show together that never materialized. i got to make videos for action button, meet some cool people, play Videoball, and developed skills that would be able to keep me employed in the bay area for the next decade after that.

he boasted a lot and promised a lot of stuff that never happened but it was admittedly cool back then to hang with someone who’s writing i really liked and respected and got me wanting to be involved in the game industry/online creative work (before i realized that things were changing and the web landscape became more hellish and beholden to algos)

i kinda felt bad cuz the last time i think i might of talked to him i probably asked about a job reference and i hadn’t heard back since but i could totally see him being tired of dealing with guys like me who only knew him from being an Online Guy, so i hope you’re doing ok wherever you are tim, i have not followed really what you’re doing lately so hopefully i don’t regret saying that lol

Videoball was financially DOA by being a game 100% based around couch competition but it really is one of the best games ever made for that specific purpose (even though I suck at it and refuse to play it)

I’m going to come clean and say I never actually read dreaming in an empty room. I mainly appreciate him as the guy who riffed about nicotine soda in one of those videos of him and his pals fucking around in Japan.

I mean I sorta look back on the Tim/Brandon/Aderack trio as the main voices that got me to… well mostly lurk on IC but eventually post more once SB was a thing, so I think I owe them a dept for that.

I haven’t really kept up with Tim and the IC gang as much I intended to back when Brandon relaunched the forum. I’m not very good about keeping up with people I know and am acquainted with irl much less online. Sucks that there’s some drama I guess but I doubt it’s the end of the world or whatever.

I may have grown away from “the scene” if you want to call it that but those years in the first decade of this century were formative for me at that time in my life when I was still figuring out who I was, feeling like an outcast and searching for other outcasts. Feeling like there was a void in my life that had to be filled with something meaningful and important and not realizing how surrounded I was by meaning and importance.

I can’t really put to words the influence Tim and Insert Credit and the forum had on me so I won’t even try. Instead I’ll just say I will always be grateful for finding them, and the rest of you all by extension, when I did.

Apparently WayForward have just put out a re-release of the original Clock Tower, with some extra features including one of their patented animated intro things. Did this ever get announced?

What did people think of the original game, worth picking up?
