Mighty News Thread Number 9: No Silksong in Mudville

I haven’t engaged with any of Tim’s writing since I contributed at abdn but bear him no ill will. He was the right writer at the right time for me, though I (and most everyone else here I reckon) have outgrown him, which is natural. It seems like he’s exhausting to be around and also that it is exhausting to be him. I wonder what he thinks of this place, these days.

will the switch 2 beat the switch port of XCX to market?

A reminder that it is 25 hours into X before you even touch a mech.

so after Speedball 2, this should be part tres, or is that a reboot, technically? :tarothink:

… they better have Brutal Deluxe returning, just for the name/sake of it!

it seems they’re going by some kind of weird 90s localisation rules, these games are deae tonosama appare ichiban and shonen ninja sasuke

While a lot of horror indie titles seem to be gravitating toward PS1 aesthetic, a brave few take up the call for integrated FMV

Is videoball actually good?

Ive only heard good things about it here.

Maybe this isn’t the place to ask.

It’s really good, videoball

I think I’ve avoided looking into it because the praise around it reminds me kind of how GDC people love Johann Sebastian Joust and Killer Queen :dotted_line_face:

videoball the product is basically over-featured, which i think tim literally acknowledged in a gdc talk, but the core is fairly unimpeachably sound, well presented, strong audio work
there was always a risk that tim was writing cheques his arse couldn’t cash with years of big ol’ essays on design but he really did do the damn thing

videoball as published by iron galaxy in 2016 is quite flawed. the online didn’t work on PS4 for some excessive period of time, and the netcode was absolute dogshit on every platform

the core game itself is incredible, and there’s a modded version - VIDEOBALL PLUS - available now on a fan discord i moderate which fixes all of the janky shit (including fully replacing the netcode) and extends the game with custom levels, announcers, music, decals, etc.

i’ve probably played more videoball than any game (other than perhaps heroes of the storm). steam’s got me at 500+ hours

I’ve only played Videoball at a forum meetup, but it was super fun. I also really liked Tim’s iOS game Ziggurat and always wished he would get it working on newer versions of iOS (though I understand Apple’s ecosystem is very hostile to developers in that regard).
