I like how mario 64 exe did it where they waited until it was finished, then released it, and now it’s this samizdat floating around

That’s the way to do it. Just work on the thing quietly and release it without fanfare. Then after you’ve made a name for yourself you can start teasing your next project and give a release date for it, just never actually reveal what it is until it’s out there.

Have you tried having a smart guy media job? I heard that helps for getting the haters and morons to acknowledge the obvious things you’re saying without calling you an idiot for no reason.

i see…

I feel like VR could be cool for all these old hypercard style games even if it’s still just 2D images at movie theater scale or whatever

Is that a case of Egg-Hen problem (no system sellers => no uptake by the masses => no system sellers etc.pp.) or burnt bridges by scrapping bc?

PSVR2, even moreso than the rest of the PS5, seemed bafflingly confident in foregoing the small ecosystem they’d already managed to build on PS4

like, between Oculus and PC VR both mostly struggling along and releasing the occasional great title on the back of huge up-front investment that afaict almost never produced any real ROI, it seemed extremely unlikely that Sony would have any success trying to create what was basically a new VR platform when VR was already on the downswing, and here we are.

the original astro bot and polybius and RE7 VR were all great!

is posing with a PSP, Vita and PSVR2 the new flexxxing of the 21st century then?

I guess I could use my old Google Daydream headset as a prop.

That was still the best name for a VR headset imho

like whenever anyone asks “what the heck is going on with PSVR2” or for that matter anything PS5-related I mostly want to link this image

i have a VR2 and it’s good but they made a lot of baffling decisions, for sure

personally if i were Sony i’d just give companies $$ to spend on porting their VR1 stuff, but i guess pulling a Virtual Boy is another move

it’s just incredibly weird that Half Life Alyx was the last of like seven or eight really enjoyable VR titles I’d bought (I forgot the AC7 VR mode and Wipeout VR in my prior post, both of which I put a bunch of time into). the technology was so speculative that the big launch title was also the most they ever did with it. Mario 64 vibes

there was a lot of money in VR until there wasn’t, etc.

friend of mine started a VR company and all he could really talk about last year was like “idk what we’re gonna do now”
